I saw that he is getting a liver.

Again - good for him BUT in general when your getting an organ transplant - it means there is someone else’s family mourning a loss.

Bernie was a great ambassador for Cleveland sports in his day - but he still annoys me. He refuses to acknowledge he had any part in frying his liver with years of booze and pills - and he continues to make his pleas for donations - going as far as creating a GoFundMe recently.

Dude - you have a NFLPA medical card and made plenty in your career and post career endeavors. Quit asking people to “help” you because you pissed it all away for the most part. Yea - it sucks you “only” made a few million while rookies make more these days - but remember the guys you replaced were making 10’s of thousands - so nothing new.

i did not know that his liver issues stemmed from alcohol and pills. i have no sympathy for that at all honestly.

my dad passed from a fatty liver that turned into cirrhosis and by the time he got to the really bad stage they said he was too far gone for a transplant. it sucked cause he went from mild to bad very quick. nothing in between. now my dad was heavy for many years and the liver was his own doing unfortunately thru years of overeating. that bernie could drink and do pills, get a new liver and get a go fund me with $119K as of this post is a joke.

i also see bernie had bad internal bleeding and they did a few surgeries. it is funny cause my dad reached that stage a few weeks before death and they didn't even try to do anything. they just say we ride it out as things are at the bad stage regardless. the liver controls clotting thru proteins generated so with a bad liver you can't clot and stop bleeding.

i am officially not a bernie kosar fan.

Bernie good people God Bless. More importantly God Bless the young man and his family that donated 🙏. We will all need God's grace in our lives or are afterlife.
that is a sad story about the person who died to give the liver. young man. when they show the video of his family walking him down the hallway for being an organ donor, it is devastating.

I watched a lot of "Honor Walk" videos on YouTube. I don't know them, but they give me tears every time!

Again - the stupidity of this whole circus is nauseating.

Let’s start with what “medical emergency” does a 21 year old otherwise healthy kid suffer from ? Has to be a fentanyl OD in my mind.

So they rush him but he’s brain dead - kept alive by a machine to allow the family an opportunity to say goodbye and secure an organ donation - that’s fine and good they agreed. But WTF is with that parade through the hospital and even worse what MORON is making a TikTok of it to post to the interweb ?!?!? Hey - big day - we are pulling the plug - post it to TikTok. Christ - is this gonna be a thing for everyone showing grandma right before they pull the plug now ??

Then mom making things a 1000x worse by saying the organ donation team asked if they had anyone who needed an organ donation and she said no - but I hear Bernie Kosar needs a liver so put him down on the list. Again - absolutely NOT how organ donation works. It’s not like pulling parts off your wrecked car after an accident and having someone say “you want any parts off this heap”. Families who donate can go to top of prospect list - but they don’t allow you to pick and choose who gets the donors organs - that’s based on a scorecard solely.

I suspect they told her AFTER agreeing to a donation and Bernie’s agreement to share his name that the recipient was Bernie Kosar. Anyone with half a brain knows HIPPA doesn’t allow private info to be shared without consent.

Now she comes out and starts how her 21 year old was Bernie’s biggest fan - again I call bullshit. Kid would never have ever have seen Bernie play a game in his lifetime. I mean I know who Jim Brown and Bob Feller were and their impact on Cleveland sports - but I never saw them play and wouldn’t call myself their biggest fans. I grew up with Mark Price, Brad Daughtry, Greg Swindell and Cory Snyder amongst others aside from Bernie and the Browns - my hero’s were the guys I saw playing every season.

It’s just sad - sad the family is joining in the circus and hurting organ donations by making it look like you can pick and choose the highest bidder to buy an organ from a deceased love one (or accept go fund me money from them in this case) and sad Bernie continues to make a joke out of the process and solicit both media attention and money.

Bernie lived his life - a 21 year old kid didn’t get that chance and somewhere else a kid or parent likely received other organs from this 21 year old and no one said a word about it. It’s all about the 70 year old who pissed away a fortune, drank away his liver and now is getting a few extra minutes on the clock.

It's not only another family mourning a loss, it means another person on the liver transplant list who needs a liver that must now wait because someone who abused pills and liquor all his life gets one ahead of them.

My brother's wife used to work at a live place when Mickey Mantle got his liver transplant (and then died a few months later). She couldn't even talk about how mad she was that he got a liver and someone else had to wait.

Yes - there is that too..

Obviously in general organ donation is done close to where the recipient lives. The logistics of transporting and getting a donor into a hospital with a surgical team capable of doing transplants guarantees that.

Still - just don’t like the way he has publicly handled this.

I say this having had a good friend who was a former alcoholic and wrecked his body. In his early 60s he needed a kidney - by that point in his life he was 15 years sober. He got one and made it another 8 years thankfully.

But it’s what he did in those 23 years since he got sober that mattered. He was the rather “un- anonymous” alcoholic type when he drank. Literally everyone who knew him knew he was a drunk.

When he quit - he didn’t walk around laying all this “higher power” BS on people - but he helped many by quietly being there. He listened more than he spoke and when he did speak it wasn’t as a lecturer but as a friend. The man probably never left our small town of a few thousand for more than a day trip - but literally I could go anywhere across the state and when I introduced myself and where I was from - inevitably I was asked if I knew him. Generally - it was because of how impactful of a speaker he was in AA meetings.

He didn’t start doing good when he had his come to Jesus moment and realized his time might be short if he did not get a transplant - but he also didn’t slow down a bit once he had one. He continued just doing what he was doing and helping people with addictions - myself included.

Bernie on the other hand obviously has had an issue with drinking for a while - a problem he denies still. It’s all the Parkinson’s my ass - sorry, watched my grandmother who helped raise me suffer with that disease and my mother as well. Bernie’s symptoms look nothing like advanced Parkinson’s. He may well have the disease - but it’s well controlled and has been for several years as he’s going on 15+ years showing the same signs and talking the same way. On the other hand I’ve also had my share of experience with alcoholics - especially aging ones and he looks exactly like that and sounds like one in denial about who and what he is. Great QB - but not a role model by any means at this point in his life and doubtful that changed - maybe I’m wrong and I hope I am.

People need to be careful spreading their righteous paintbrush too thick unless they know the actual situation.
i get that. i just feel, especially after watching my dad pass from fatty liver cirrhosis (extreme overweight, 400 plus pounds, etc), that this worked out a little too well for mr kosar since the liver issue was his doing. with my dad, they didn't even make it seem like they would give him a liver at any point. it was like he made his bed and now is lying in it.

Phil Mickelson recently gave him 20K for his medical bills. Seems like a very generous offer, but if you put that into perspective it's like if I gave Bernie Kosar .20 cents to help pay for his surgeries if we were to compare net worths.

Completely understandable sure Bernie is a flawed individual as are us all if we want to believe it or not. As human beings we don't know God's plan in this world or the next. We can only ask for his grace and forgiveness in judgment. Bernie, your Father, You, and Me will all need it when it comes down to it. 🙏
