Everyone had jokes about Shedeur Sanders sliding to the 2nd round. 📉⌚

Browns might have just got mad value though.

If he can make the throws, he's going to be worth something , even if it takes a couple years, in a league that seems like it has a QB problem every year with injury, etc.

The Browns picking him is less about value and more about out playing keep away from divisional rivals.

They knew Pittsburgh could use him AND they knew Baltimore may very well be interested too in letting Sanders sit and learn under Lamar and using him as cheap insurance for a couple of years.

Worst case - you “wasted” a 5th rounder and 6th on the guy - not a high cost. And you control him now / even if you don’t play him - they can trade him out of the division.

Weird how you start that post saying it's less about value and then go on to talk about the value of what the Browns did, adding to the value of the pick.

Yea - should have clarified.

The “value” is less about the player and more about taking away from the competition/controlling the player and keeping him away from the competition.

There is value - just not in the traditional sense. Other teams have done similar in the past - and sometimes it’s worked out unexpectedly in their favor.

No, what you are describing IS value in the traditional sense. You even go as far as to say it's a strategy teams use.

There are many pieces to the overall value, and you are just describing a well known one.
