Bessent is the only one with any common sense on foreign trade in the entire administration. He's the one who talked Trump off the ledge and got him to pause the tariffs for 90 days to avoid a bond market collapse.

But, the problem with Bessent (just like all trump appointees) is that he is scared of getting on Trump's bad side. Trump has a tendency to fire anyone who doesn't show 100% fealty to his majesty. That stops anyone working for Trump from giving sage advice and leads to where we are at now...
Well I'm glad you feel that way about Bessent because he's the one who told Trump to slap the tariffs on China, then when China retaliated, told Trump to escalate the tariffs on them.

Take a look at what he says here...

Honestly, it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of Trump

The fact is the majority of Americans support him, and those numbers are growing as droves of Democrats leave the party

JD Vance or whoever the republican nominee is next time around, will win by an even greater margin than DJT did
This is not true....

You can say a majority of people who went to vote last year support him but no way can you say a majority of Americans support him.

exactly. saying something doesn't make it true

A tariff war in this day and age cannot work. Should we always be working for better trade deals sure, we should that's common sense, and we always are.

But his idea is like bringing in a tank to kill a hummingbird and the numbers that they are trying to pass as "accurate" are using a formula they know is wrong. they are only doing it to make him look good because they don't wanna piss him off and get tossed out in the rain.
Just like in reservoir dogs

"If you beat this prick long enough he'll tell you who started the Chicago fire, but that doesn't make it fuckin true!"

These maps are a really bad argument...
First, land doesn't vote.... People do.

Second, only 150M people voted. Trump received 74M votes and was actually only 49.8% of the total who did vote. In the US there are over 270M over the age of 18. That means Trump received ~28% of the vote from the voting age population.

No matter how you slice and dice it, he doesn't have a majority of the support. I doubt anyone does.

Meaning the majority who voted for him still does in every way

Even stormy who’s a Democrat can admit that everyone who voted for him knew exactly what his plan was

, the poll numbers shows mixed reviews.

A YouGov/Economist poll found Trump's approval in general among young voters has fallen from +5 at the start of his term to -29 now.
Another survey from the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that only about 4 in 10 U.S. adults approve of the way he's handling the job.
Zoom in: Trump's tariffs have become a liability for him: A vast majority of voters (72%) said they think Trump's tariffs will hurt the U.S. economy in the short-term, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll of registered voters released last week.

That's true across 97% of Democrats, 77% of independents and 44% of Republicans.
A smaller majority (53%) said they think the tariffs will hurt the U.S. economy in the long-term too.

Read "in the short term" meaning these polls are flexible meaning if the tariffs work, these numbers will shoot up.

When I see people say stuff like this, I don't know what to think.

Trump has people like Bessent advising him, by all accounts, an absolute expert when it comes to trade.

Are you saying you know better than Bessent and his team?

do we trust Bessent on his views on Powell's job?

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has cautioned White House officials that removing Jerome Powell as chair of the Federal Reserve would risk destabilizing financial markets, Politico reports

I can't comment on this Archie as I know nothing about Powell.

Bessent is, however, universally recognized as an expert on trade.

"China wants what we have...the American consumer", that is absolutely correct and it's about time somebody said it; if Bill Clinton had adopted Trump's strategy back in the 90's, China would be nowhere near a world power. Trump definitely has a plan and it might fail but kudos to him for doing something instead of sitting back and letting China fukk us.
