So he has 4 years and $144M left due to him after the off-season "negotiations".

Cole actually opted out of the contract (his option) in November and NY then had the option to give him an "extra" year added on to the contract at $36M to keep him or let him go FA. NY said no thanks, so Cole removed his "Opt-out Option" instead of going free-agent and they are still on the original 2019 contract path.

I think Cole has the option to Opt-out each year until the current contract expires in 2029 to see if NY will give him the "extra" year at $36M. I'm not sure NY will ever exercise that option now.
