How does this man get overlooked?

In 1972, Steve Carlton was the greatest pitcher to ever live.

Some highlights include...

He won 27 games for a team that won only 59 games during the season. A winning percentage that will never be touched.

He posted 30 complete games with a 59 iirc!

He posted a 1.97 ERA

He led the league in strikeouts with 310

He pitched 346.1 innings pitched.

He won the pitching triple crown probably the hardest feat in baseball to accomplish leading the league in wins, strikeouts, and ERA.

Allowed only 4 earned runs in his last 5 starts.

The Phillies went 30-85 in games that Carlton didn't pitch.

He led all of baseball with a 12.5 WAR. The highest single season mark for a pitcher since Walter Johnson in 1913.

In his time with the Phillies, Carlton led the league in wins 4 times, winning 20 games or more 5 times.

He was the first pitcher in MLB history to win 4 Cy Young awards.

He was a golden glove winner.

He threw for more than 200 innings 16 times.

Phillies fans called the days that Carlton pitched "win day" because they knew the Phillies were going to win that day.

Out of all left handed pitchers to ever live, he was the only one who earned the nickname "Lefty."

A reporter once asked Willie Stargell what it was like trying to hit a Carlton slider. His reply:

"Like trying to drink coffee with a fork."

This man was a freak of nature.

Best pitcher I ever seen to this day AINEC.

Put some respect on this man's name!

When baseball was really good he was some tough motherf******* to hit
Yes coach. People don't realize who he was pitching against. The competition.

He won those games going against Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Bob Gibson, Niekro, and every other great pitcher of his day and he still dominated.

He is an anomaly from the get.

Total freak and never used PEDs.

Agree. Fantastic pitcher. I listened to all his games on the radio and watched on TV when available. Also bet on him quite often. My favorite pitcher back then.

Posters insulting Lefty by mentioning Gooden, Martinez, and Gibson.

Blasphemy.

200 games winners do not compare vs. 300 game winners.

Gooden didn't even win 200 games the bum.
