What is the point of eliminating the 4th preseason game, if they are then going to take that extra week off before the start of the Regular season, instead of starting Week 1 immediately following the last preseason game as they always did in the past

Wasn't the logic to eliminate preseason game to add a regular season game? And if so, like you said why the gap?

Make that 4th game a meaningful game

But why add the week in-between that wasn't there before??

That's what the 3 and what used to be 4 preseason games are for

To prep for Regular season which always started the week directly after Preseason game 4

So now it's still like there's 4 weeks anyhow lol

Probably a good idea that NFL players get a lot of rest. We want them healthy opening day.

they still need reps and practice for rookies and players to get new schemes. less pre season games doesn't shorten amount of time needed for learning and general conditioning
