Is he really worried about the world thinking America when when it comes to the NBA & basketball, or is he hating on the fact the 2 best players in the world right now are white international players 🤔

Neither.

He's saying it doesn't matter how much the world gets turned on to the NBA, it's America that needs to be turned on to the NBA.

He said this...

"If it doesn't resonate in America, then it's not going to matter to America how you resonate beyond."

I'm not so sure that having the best players come from other countries doesn't resonate in America.

So his premise might be wrong but I didn't see the full context of the show and the conversation.

Yeah that makes sense

I wonder how interest across the world currently compares to the states where it has fallen

Is there really a correlation though?

For example no matter how much the world remains in love with soccer it has yet to catch on here and the same could be same vice-versa with football

I think MJ jolted interest so much worldwide, that it’s probably here (there) to stay regardless

NBA pretty big internationally.

Social media has grown like crazy, exponentially in fact.

Over 75% of the NBA's social media followers are from OUTSIDE the US. NBA Instagram has like 88 million or followers, 70% of them from OUTSIDE the US.

NBA app is available in more than 200 countries and you can see games on the app.

As far as the viewership and ratings decline in the US, some of that can be attributed to streaming services, like League Pass.

Silver thinks things will get better as the method of viewing starts to consolidate.

Overall NBA is doing well and the global interest is a big part of that.

I think Stephen A is saying "fuk the global interest, none of that matters if US audience aren't interested. But he's saying that from a US perspective. So he's saying it doesn't matter to US audiences what global growth and success comes.

He's not really saying much though. I think we can all agree that the US audience probably will never really care what other countries think about the NBA, lol.

Yeah, in the same fashion do we think US soccer fans really care what other countries think about soccer, and especially what they think about US soccer?

I doubt it.

While they say the interest globally is partially rising because of access to the games, it's the opposite in the US. In the US, games are streaming, on TV, the app, etc. and it's actually led to less viewers in the US because of the confusion of not being just on TV.

They say the international players can easily watch while US players can't find the game because it could be in any number of places.

Sounds more like US audience is just lazy and dumb and I think Silver knows this and is optmisitic as streaming becomes more the thing in the US.

Speaking of soccer honestly about 10 years ago I believed the talent level would increase here in the states with the rise of Latinos I’ve seen playing in high schools

But doesn’t look like it will ever happen as our best athletes will always be more attracted to the other 4 major sports
