Was a lot of things but was a true American that got a bad wrap for the most part imo.

Nixon was, arguably the 2nd greatest foreign relations President we ever had.

Ironically, Eik was probably #1.

What Nuxon did with China changed the WORLD economy for the better, for 3 generations basically, AND had the added effect of more or less ending both the Cold War (and subsequently USSR all together) and rebuilding Vietnam post war.

Truly amazing international leadership.

Domestically he was handcuffed by the Fed, but did have a solid position on Energy & Clean water/ environment. Got the EPA started and foresaw the blight that the rust belt states & urban decay issues, would deal with post white flight to the burbs or SW/ SE USA.

Nixon the ultimate "chess player" in politics. The smartest guy in the room for sure.

Good collaboration w John Lindsay, mayor of NYC, to combat the decay that was derived from expansion of intravenous use.

Post war America was hooked on heroin & NYC was the drug capitol of the world.

Mixed bag.

The expanded efforts internationally in that war haulted the influx of 'banana republics' & dictatorships in Latin America. I believe there are only 3 Communist nations left in Latin America now, and 1 preceeded Nixon, and one came 20 years after he passed away (Cuba/ Venezuela)...the other being Haiti.

Domestically, NYC was a success, the Times Square transformation, Brooklyn & Harlem resurrection are proof positive.

San Fran became the most desirable place to live in the late 70s-90s after being a shithole in the 60s.

But...

Chicago was a failure, Miami became the cocaine center of America and of course pot use expanded so much that just 1 generation later its now recreational & legal.

So, I'd say for a Federal program it's about as good as it gets in terms of international interests...but Domestically that money should have been allocated to the States as drug regulation should be as well.

There's that HUGE socio-economic effect in minority communities.

Drug charges mean big prison. The asset seizure provisions strip families of the earnings and are used to offset the costs associated with the $50+ Billion annually used to fight narcotics.

But, what we saw was, rather than a sophisticated and controlled distribution of illegal drugs as the mafia had from the 1920s thru 1970s we saw more cowboy BS from Latin & black gangs w a higher kill rate....more of an ends justify the means form of business, and a sub culture of glorified violence & the art/ music/ lifestyle that has further broken the black home and to a lesser extent the Latin home.

If the charges were left to the States, you'd see organized crime take ba k the trade, and youth doping rates & epidemics like the opioid & fentynol crisis probably wouldn't have occurred.

I'm for the Feds intervening abroad, but domestically it's got to be States that enforce.
