We are saddened by the passing of three-time All-Star and 1968 World Series MVP Mickey Lolich.

Lolich spent 13 of his 16 Major League seasons with the Tigers, while also pitching for the Mets and Padres.

In 1968, Lolich hurled 3 complete game victories against St. Louis in the World Series to lead Detroit back from a 3-1 deficit and win the championship in seven games.

His finest season came in 1971 when he led the American League in wins (25), starts (49), complete games (29), innings pitched (376), and strikeouts (308), while finishing second in AL Cy Young voting.

Lolich won 217 career games and his 2,832 career strikeouts are 5th all-time among left-handed pitchers behind only Randy Johnson, Steve Carlton, CC Sabathia, and Clayton Kershaw.

Lolich was 85 years old.

RIP.

1968 was the last time MLB had a 30+ game winner in the Tigers' Denny McLain with a 31-6 record.

Damn - sorry to hear this news.

My old man loved Mickey Lolich - was his high school hero who he tried to emulate playing. They were both relatively short, lefties and played hard.

Dude loved his donuts - actually bought into a donut shop after his playing days. Wasn’t he supposed to have said he ate a dozen a day - except game days when he had 2 dozen ?

Met him many years ago at a show and got the old man an autograph. Very nice man and we talked several minutes about alot of things outside of baseball. RIP

pitchers built so different then. rest in peace.

Yea - completely different game.

You didnt want to leave the game and pitching complete games was not unheard of. Relievers were specialist who came in to save your ass as you lost control of the game and would pitch 3 innings.

Now no one goes more than 8 and usually only 6+. The aer up man and reliever are brought in every game your ahead in the 8th.
