That’s the college mentality. Pros don’t ever care about the coach or the staff. Pros only care about shots and playing time and the coach can’t control that if the player is good enough. Players don’t have to exist with the coach

This is a different situation. The Hurleys are God-like coaches and very well respected. They would be great for the NBA, it will happen for a team eventually , maybe not the Lakers but eventually.

I think Hurley would be a better choice than JJ Redick. Redick hasn't coached a game before at least Hurley has won back to back National Championships. Hurley is a hell of a basketball coach and contrary to popular belief good coaches matter in the league but just not as much as in college. I think Lebron would approve of this move by the Lakers and the other guys would buy in which gives Hurley a fighting chance to succeed in the NBA.
Keep in mind that Bob is the real coach at Uconn, he calls on the shots, it is a family coaching gig, Dan, Bob and Bobby Jr, strongest family in basketball!

To me - CK pretty much sums up the Lakers job in equating it to the Cowboys.
You go there - make playoffs and it’s a “disappointing” season unless you’re winning it all. All the while the fan expectations are that you win 82 games regular season and win them all by 40+.
The league is fairly balanced talent wise - it’s who can get the most out of that talent and keep them engaged in winning during the season.
Hurley has said it himself - he is a great high school coach - he can motivate lesser talented kids and play tactician to allow his teams to beat superior talent. As much as LeBron says he wants to be challenged and chewed out by his coaches - history suggest otherwise. Then there’s the fact there are 11 other guys on the team - again NBA players in general have been coddled throughout their playing career since 7th grade - coaches yielded to their superior talents and the ball went through them prior to getting to the league.
It’s a steep curve for players not used to the treatment like that learning to adapt to Hurleys style and it would be a rough transition. That transition may very well be allowed to happen in places like Minnesota/Orlando or Indiana where the fan pressure to win is less - but not the Lakers.
It’s not the “worst” job in the NBA - I’d say Knicks are worse as you get all the pressure and a lesser talented roster and more egos on ownership - but it’s a solid #2 - which is exactly what this team is if/when Lebron leaves. Your left with a single top line talent with attitude issues - a couple of borderline starters and a bench full of guys who probably should be starting in Europe.
But by all means chase the money as a coach - NIL makes it harder to grab talent these days. Players just want paid and to do what they like and can’t be controlled. Wait until he finds out that’s EXACTLY the mindset of NBA players.
