Guy walked away way back for bizarre reasons I believe

It was injury. He ruptured his achilles.

Thing is, he was insured and took the isurance payout when he quit playing due to injury.

If he plays pro again, it could be insurance fraud and he has been unable to play.

It is rumored, but I don't think official, that LIV may have bought out that insurance policy, which wasn't cheap.

He's going to play so something must have changed with the insurance situation.

Yea - he had ALOT of injuries and cashed a big insurance check.

I am still waiting to hear how much of that policy got paid back - it took a team of lawyers to negotiate that deal I am sure - on both sides. Not quite as easy as just saying - ok, thanks for the money guys - I know you were paying me a million a year until I was 50 - but we can stop now - I’m back.

If you would see some of the policies taken out in the Lloyd’s market - it’s unreal. Basically - it is gambling on worst case scenario. Ultra lucrative too for insurance companies as the margin on these things is unreal.

Of course it takes only one half million policy on a 19 year old kid who becomes the next Len Bias to make you really regret taking these risk. But the risk is spread amongst 3 or 4 companies usually and you see a lot of retirement/pensions funding these things too. Anyone with a lot of $$ and a desire to diversify away from traditional investments.

Saudi money. They can afford it if that's the case.
