Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who now competes as pay-per-view (PPV) headliner for Professional Fighters League (PFL), was involved in a motorcycle accident earlier this month in Cameroon, where the part-time boxer struck and killed a young woman on the streets of Yaounde.
MMAmania.com was able to independently verify early reports from multiple local outlets including ActuCameroun, which also indicated that Ngannou covered all related medical expenses.
Authorities are still investigating the fatal crash.
The 38 year-old Cameroonian has not competed since registering a knockout victory over Renan Ferreira atop the PFL “Super Fights” card last October in Riyadh. Ngannou was originally expected to be a part of the promotion’s upcoming press tour in July — which culminates with four, single-elimination MMA events across multiple weight classes.
Ngannou is Chairman and part-owner of PFL Africa.
It is not yet known if Ngannou will make his return to MMA or boxing, as both sports offer lucrative options for late 2025 and beyond. “The Predator” is currently 0-2 in the “Sweet Science” but to date, has only faced the best heavyweights in the world, including Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
