On a little run here, trying to make it 4-0.
We've got 5 weeks left of the regular season, and 6 teams are in must-win mode right now, either fighting to hold onto a guaranteed top 6 playoff spot, or trying to get out of or into the play-in tourney. Looking at that, we've got a team playing tonight that currently has the 7 seed and just 1 game behind the 6th seed and guaranteed playoff spot.
Minnesota Timberwolves is that team.
They're playing the Hornets tonight, which is the 2nd worst team in the NBA, with absolutely nothing to play for. Hornets have lost 16 of their last 18 games and on an ice-cold 7-game losing streak. Wolves have won 2 straight and are starting to heat back up again, with a dominant 126-112 win over Philly last night. Minnesota's elite defense (7th in defensive efficiency, 109 ppg allowed) is a nightmare matchup for a Charlotte offense that ranks 29th in efficiency and has failed to crack 101 points in each of their last seven games. The Hornets shoot a league-worst 42% from the field and 29th in three-point shooting, so scoring will be tough against a Wolves squad that thrives on shutting teams down. Unless Charlotte plays way above their level, this should be a one-sided game. Minnesota has way too much on the line here and will be highly motivated.
Minnesota Timberwolves -9 is my play.
