Historically cheap Oakland A’s ( See “Moneyball”) just got the go-ahead for their 1.75 Billion stadium to be built in Las Vegas.

Will start playing there in 2028

The A’s already inked pitcher Luis Severino to a 3-year, 67-million deal a day or two ago.

This is something the old Oakland A’s never would have done

Hard to believe 67-million is largest guaranteed contact in franchise history

Guess it depends on the definition of "big"

I think they will def spend a bit more although I doubt they go crazy
Agree. Obviously not going to compete with Dodgers, Yanks, Red Sox but I think they will finally loosen the purse strings and get some decent FA players

I’d expect them to add some veterans to the roster - especially names they can get at a more reasonable cost.

Obviously guys like Soto are out of their budget - but getting a guy who’s over 30 and can be signed for 30 mill over a couple of years - completely doable for them and will help give time to figure out what their needs are as the homegrown talent develops.

Yeah would be nice to see them get to at least the middle of the league or slightly above in spending after being such cheap fucks for these past years

yeah this seems like a very likely scenario - at least hopefully

They’ve been cheap fucks for decades.

Basically a farm system for the teams that spend

Was shocked about this as well.
Maybe the team owner has a different approach now that he's in Vegas. I guess he expects to have fans and make some money so he's spending it too.
