Why am I so nice to people - sucks that it cost me $$ somedays.

So planning on selling the inherited property - good opportunity to just rid myself of it and walk away with a nice pile of cash.

Anyway - I have 2 renters who rent mobile home spaces down there from me - not a huge monthly income and honestly I’m probably charging half of “normal” rent- but the one is just a single guy whose disabled and the other is an older lady - both on limited incomes and neither cause any problems - literally it’s just free $$ every month.

Anyway - they both became aware of my plan to sell and asked that I not - or at least ensure any new owner will continue to rent to them and not drastically raise rents - and I said I would certainly do what I could if I sold.

So after thinking about it - I’m leaning towards keeping half - including the parcel they live on. Would allow me to do something I’ve wanted for a while in either building a get away cabin / garage with a small living quarters to it and continue to rent to both of them.

Of course if I do this - forget any plans on moving again in the immediate future, forget the wife’s plan of using the money we make from the sale to buy a place somewhere up along the lake and forget any plans early retirement. On the plus side - I’d be keeping something that’s been in the family a century and have me a place where I could just unwind and work on cars or whatever when the time comes for me to step back and move away from working a 9-5. Would be nice to have a place surrounded by woods I guess with my own little private pond - but still - why am I considering forsaking a quarter million just to keep a little piece of land I never get to see and to allow a couple of otherwise strangers a cheap place to live and avoid disrupting their lives. Sucks to have a conscious and not be so money hungry at times.

Probably - they have a good thing and they are going to hang as long as possible.

One I’m not so worried about - the other has potential to be a pain I’m afraid.

I don’t know what I am going to do honestly. The “plan” prior to health issues was sell half - keep the other immediately next to them and then continue to rent and build a cabin down there.

Now that the offer is on the table to sell it all - it’s tempting to walk - I mean I’ll ask that if I sell buyer continues to make it available to rent - but beyond that it’s out of my hands.

All comes back to - if I sold half, I walk away with a nice amount of $$ - have enough to build a nice cabin overlooking woods and a small pond and have a place to get away to and have enough to pay off all debts we have AND stash away a decent amount in retirement fund. If I sold it all - forgo the cabin we could just seriously look at doing a primary house on a lake somewhere and seriously look at an early retirement or just going part time - which at my age is a serious bonus.

I don’t want to wait until I’m in my mid-late 60s and realize I don’t have the energy or health to do things like traveling or enjoying not working every day. At the same time - I’ll probably always want to be doing something and having a place to get away gives me that opportunity. It’s a tough balancing act.
