One thing is clear. The colleges don't hurt for funds if they can dole out those king of buyout guarantees. Who the heck was Billy Napier before they hired him at FLA?
Most of these are state run institutions so the money can't becoming from the general funding from teh state to payoff these coaches. I think we can all agree it has to be from alumni and supporters.

So my question is, if they can raise that much money to "get rid of coaches", why can't they raise that money in the same way to pay the athletes? They were doing it under the table before so I'd assume they can continue to do so "legally" now.

But, we're seeing Tennessee raise ticket prices and add a fee specifically to pay athletes NIL money. They've stated the increase it to pay for athletes. This is just the start. It will happen across the board at schools. Did alumni and supporter money dry up when it became legal?????

The money used to go for facilities and upgrades. Now that money is going to the players. I haven’t heard of any big stadium upgrades since NIL started when every year the schools tried to one up the other in shiny new upgrades. The money goes to the players, which in brass tax, how schools ultimately win big games.

Wow. Very insightful seaborneq and very likely the case.
So we can expect stadiums to start to crumble and we can forget about upgraded practice facilities.

I just wonder how state schools get around using tax money for funding NIL payouts. These athletes are not state employees, right? So, how can state funds go towards NIL payouts vs towards building and grounds?

It was always a sham that a recruit came to a school because of the new locker room, practice facility or jumbotron. The real reason was always the under the table benefits. Now its the NIL evaluations which have changed everything. Watch carefully how DJU plays out at FSU. That is exhibit A for what happens when you pay the wrong player and need to bench them while paying them. Very combustible.

For the same reason they pay coaches.

A&M paid $76 million just to get rid of a coach. SMU paid $100 million just to join the ACC. No problems with stadium upgrades.
