Russell Wilson, Broncos heading toward nasty divorce
Russell Wilson is not in the future plans of the Broncos
Good point Archie. You think they are letting him go?prob teams would wait until after draft
If he sits and then returns he'll be 36.... Best case is he'd be a backup somewhere. If there is a team willing to pay Wilson more than $37M for the next 2 seasons the Broncos are willing to let that team have him. If no-one values him that highly the smart move is for the Broncos to cut him. If he is cut the Broncos will have to pay him his $39M guaranteed salary for 2024. Wilson would then be a FA. There is an offset in Wilson's contract with the Broncos that allows the Broncos to claw back what they can of the £39M exit fee from any money Wilson earns with another NFL team. Effectively Wilson would have to play 2024 for free. His best way around that would be to sign a guaranteed 2-year contract, (maybe $30M), with league minimum salary in year 1 and the remaining $28.8M in year 2. Finding a team willing to do that is also unlikely.
My guess is that Wilson will be cut and will find media for 2024 with a view to returning in 2025.
