I used to love that

You would count 10 minutes to get that check on Fridays and then run to the bank and get the cash and then maybe go to the track and start betting with the bookie or western union

I miss those days
Bank? A bank?
We had to go to the check cashing place and pay a 8% fee.

When I first started hitting the time clock for a living? Oh yea I would. Felt dead inside going to work, Could not wait to make a deposit, which BTW if you are working 40 hours a week, you aren't winning shit nowadays. IDC what anyone tells me, if you are at work 40 hours a week you don't have enough rec time to follow the necessary avenues of winning.

Depends on your schedule. I wouldn't mind working 4 10's with 3 days off

I swear half the people in line were illegals with no bank accounts or IDs.
They could have charged 20% and some would have had to eat it.
As much as I bitch about Technology being way too advanced in certain areas of life, the pre paid debit saved some folks shit loads of cash. Which I always went with the CU. Went to sign up for Wells Fargo cuz that is where my dad had an account when I was still a teen he was like "Oh no, that horse and carriage? That's them running away with your money" He took me to a CU.

THIS!
Credit Unions are the way to go.
We do have a big bank acct but its from years ago when we traveled a lot and needed access to ATMs.

Weren’t there a couple of casinos in downtown Vegas that used to give like a $20 chip if you cashed your paycheck with them ?

We used to keep $10k on hand to cash paychecks for customers back in the day - little kiosk in the center of the mall - people would come in with paychecks - settle up and we’d cash their checks and take what was owed that week - or if on payment plan take the payment. Always plenty of suckers who’d cash a check and fill out a sheet while there.

The entire time that I was there - I never understood how the owner got away with taking bets - because we clearly were not profitable selling stuff nor were we discreet about hiding what was going on. Then a few years after leaving got to talking to someone who told me the whole story - the guy who owned the bar/lounge in the mall wasn’t paying his share to the “family” who controlled things - so the bookmaking operation was awarded to someone else they knew they could control. Looking back - operation was much smarter than I ever gave it credit for with guys recruiting new customers and making presence known.

There's a few properties that give a couple small incentives for cashing your check there. Nowadays it's mostly a wheel spin with a guaranteed $5 free play
