- Action gets underway early on Wednesday with a 12:05 PM ET start in the nation's capital when southpaw Tommy Milone and the Seattle Mariners visit Erick Fedde and the Washington Nationals in an interleague affair. Neither starter moves the fantasy needle, but batters from both sides are in play to fortify a hitting lineup. For the home team, Cesar Hernandez (10% rostered in ESPN leagues) has been slumping but batting second on a day the Nationals should score some runs is a favorable spot. Maikel Franco (4%) is also in a rut, but he should have opportunities to drive home teammates. Switch hitters Carlos Santana(45%) and Cal Raleigh (3%) plus Adam Frazier (38%) should be productive facing the fifth-lowest ranked pitcher on the card.
- There is a quartet of streaming options with Josh Winckowski (3%) checking in as the highest ranked candidate, despite the Red Sox facing Shane McClanahan, one of the first half's best starters. Winckowski will face a Rays lineup with the eighth-lowest wOBA and fourth highest strikeout rate with a righty on the hill. Plus, Tampa is without Wander Franco and Kevin Kiermaier. Speaking of McClanahan, with both he and Shohei Ohtani scheduled to start Wednesday, there should be no conflict with either's ability to pitch in the All-Star game.
Southpaw Justin Steele (6%) will back from the paternity list to face the Baltimore Orioles in Wrigley Field. The Orioles offense has improved lately, but for the season they are still one of the least productive units with a lefty on the hill. If Steele isn't ready to return to the rotation, Keegan Thompson(40%) should start and is also in play. Brady Singer (10%) is at home against a Tigers lineup with the second worst wOBA facing righthanders. Aaron Ashby (11%) is still trying to find his groove after coming off the IL in early July, but his stuff is excellent so he's in play at home against a middle of the pack Twins lineup. Aaron Civale (36%) has reworked his pitch mix with good success as he's fanned 12 over his last 13 innings. Next up is a White Sox lineup with the third lowest wOBA against righties.- Coors Field week continues with Joe Musgrove and the Padres playing the third of four tilts with Chad Kuhl and the Rockies. With 12 of his 13 outings registering as quality starts, Musgrove is one of the few pitchers meriting a road start in Coors Field. Kuhl's 3.27 ERA and 1.06 WHIP at home may appear worthy of a start as well, but it's just a 41 1/3 inning sample. The sage ploy is choosing from several widely available Padres bats, including Trent Grisham (47%), Luke Voit (31%), Austin Nola (9%), Ha-Seong Kim (9%), Jorge Alfaro (6%) and C.J. Abrams (3%).
- A six-pack of hitters all enjoying the platoon edge in a favorable spot include Christian Walker (56%), Riley Greene (28%), Jesus Sanchez (12%), Gavin Sheets (3%), Jose Miranda (3%) and Edward Olivares (2%). Please note, Phillies catcher J.T. Realmutodid not make the trip to Toronto. Alfaro and Raleigh have already been suggested as backstop options. Other include Jonah Heim (54%), Jose Trevino (8%) and Francisco Mejia (2%).
