  • There are a dozen games on the Monday docket, with everything played under the lights. The slate begins in the Steel City with the Pittsburgh Pirates hosting the Colorado Rockies. JT Brubaker (3% rostered in ESPN leagues) starts for the home team. The righty is sporting a career high 26.5% strikeout rate, though he's also walking batters at a career worst 11.7% clip. However, as a team the Rockies are not patient and they usually struggle on the road, especially the first series after a long homestand. Brubaker will only be available on select DFS slates, but he's one of the top streamers for traditional fantasy leagues.
  • Drew Smyly (3%) is also in play as a spot starter, taking the hill for the Chicago Cubsin the Great American Ballpark. The venue is not ideal, but there are a couple of factors favoring Smyly, though splits against lefthanded pitching are still tenuous, even a quarter of the way through the season. Specifically, the Cincinnati Reds home wOBA facing southpaws is .330, well above average, but they've fanned at a 30% clip, while homering at the 11th lowest pace in these conditions. This is relevant since Smyly's primary issue has been serving up too many long balls.
  • Tyler Anderson (3%) is also in play for those looking for an early pitching boost to start the week. His defense comes with the same small sample warnings as Smyly, but the lefthander faces a Washington Nationalslineup with the worst home wOBA facing southpaws, though they don't fan much in that scenario. However, Anderson's win potential helps mitigate the paucity of punchouts as the Los Angeles Dodgersshould be able to tally some runs facing Joan Adon, one of the lowest ranked starters on the Monday ledger.
  • The final streaming candidate is Minnesota Twins righty Chris Archer who will take on the Detroit Tigers at home. Other than the pun potential of taking a shot at Archer in Target Field, the opposing lineup has posted the second worst wOBA versus righthanders and will be without Austin Meadows who remains out.
  • Turning to hitters, there are two lineups to target for fill-in bats. The lefty-swinging brethren of the Arizona Diamondbacks are in a favorable position at home against Zack Greinke. Josh Rojas (25%), David Peralta(14%) and Pavin Smith lead the way. Rojas is especially attractive since Kansas City Royals catcher MJ Melendez isn't nearly adept at stopping steals as Sal Perez who is on the IL. Next, the righthanded unit for the Philadelphia Phillies face vulnerable Atlanta Braves lefty Tucker Davidson. Alec Bohm(38%) is batting second while Johan Camargo (1%) and Roman Quinn (<1%) are also in play.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that Chapman underwent an MRI on his left Achilles' tendon, which returned negative but revealed tendinitis, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Spin:Though the Yankees aren't yet deactivating Chapman ahead of Monday's series opener with the Orioles after the MRI detected no structural damage, Boone said that a stint on the 10-day injured list is "still very much in play" for the fireballing reliever, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. With that in mind, enterprising fantasy managers may want to look to pick up Clay Holmes in leagues where he's available, as the 29-year-old had already snagged saves in his last two appearances while Chapman had been faltering of late before sustaining the injury. Even if Chapman ends up avoiding the IL, the Yankees are expected to stay away from him for at least the next couple of days to give his Achilles time to heal.

Frazier went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a two-run home run in an extra-inning loss to the Red Sox on Sunday.
Spin:Frazier erased a 2-0 deficit in the sixth inning with a 321-foot shot to right field that plated Taylor Trammell, and he subsequently added his RBI single that snapped a 3-3 tie in the 10th inning. While the Mariners went on to blow that lead via a Franchy Cordero grand slam in the home half of the frame for the team's latest excruciating loss, Frazier snapped a brief 0-for-14 slump with his spectacular showing, which also marked his first multi-RBI tally since April 27.

Donaldson, whom the Yankees placed on the COVID-19-related injured list earlier Monday, received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine from MLB that he plans to appeal, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
Spin:The suspension stems from inappropriate comments Donaldson made to the White Sox's Tim Anderson in the Yankees' 7-5 win Saturday. A decision on when or if Donaldson serves the one-game ban likely won't be made until after he's reinstated from the COVID-19-related IL and his appeal is heard. Per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, manager Aaron Boone said Donaldson hasn't tested positive for COVID-19, but the 36-year-old displayed symptoms consistent with the virus and was deactivated as a matter of precaution. The Yankees called up Miguel Andujar from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Donaldson's spot on the active roster.

LeMahieu isn't starting Monday against the Orioles.
Spin:LeMahieu started in the last four matchups, but he'll get a chance to reset after he went 0-for-8 over the last two games. Gleyber Torres will start at second base and bat cleanup.

Turner isn't starting Monday against the Nationals.
Spin:Turner drew starts in the last four games and went 4-for-16 with a homer, a double, four RBI, two walks and five strikeouts. However, he'll get a breather while Edwin Rios serves as the designated hitter and bats cleanup.

Out: 10-day ILNews Archive

Adames (ankle) relayed that he's optimistic he'll be ready to return from the 10-day injured list when first eligible in Thursday's series opener in St. Louis, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. "There's a lot of tests that I have to pass to prove to them I'm good enough to play on Thursday, but the work that we're putting in, we're going to have a really good chance of being ready for Thursday," Adames said.
Spin:Since landing on the IL on Wednesday due to the high left ankle sprain, Adames has been able to do some hitting and straight-line running without pain, but the Brewers want to ensure he has regained full lateral movement before activating him. Adames is scheduled to run the bases Tuesday, and if all goes well, he could test out his lateral movement in the field Wednesday. Even if being ready to go for Thursday's game proves to be too ambitious, Adames would still have a shot at returning later in the weekend in St. Louis.

Contreras (hamstring) isn't starting Monday's game against the Reds.
Spin:Contreras suffered a right hamstring strain during Saturday's loss to the Diamondbacks, and he's considered day-to-day. With Contreras out of the lineup for a second straight game, Yan Gomes will start behind the dish and bat fifth.

Trout went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, two RBI and an additional run in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Athletics.
Spin:Trout posted a 1.319 OPS during the Angels' six-game week and is now up to 12 home runs on the season, putting him behind only the Yankees' Aaron Judge (15) for the MLB lead. The running game isn't a part of Trout's skill set at this stage of his career -- he's yet to attempt a steal through 38 games -- but he's re-emerged as an elite four-category contributor coming off an injury-plagued 2021 campaign.

Ohtani went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Sunday in the Angels' 4-1 win over the Athletics.
Spin:Ohtani's leadoff long ball in the bottom of the first inning staked the Angels to an early 1-0 lead that the team maintained the rest of the way. He's now up to nine home runs on the season, placing him behind only Mike Trout (12) for the team lead.

I know I’m the only one probably watching this game too funny. Runner for KC steals second base the second baseman bobbles it runner runs to third no ones covering throws the ball as the pitcher is trying to get over to cover the ball goes to fence runner scored. First to home on a stolen base. 5-3 top of second. Glad l won but now I’m bored lol
