  • With run-scoring down, there are many starting pitchers off to surprisingly solid starts, with Chad Kuhl (44% rostered) among them. Even with a pair of starts at home in Coors Field, Kuhl has posted a 1.90 ERA over his first 23 2/3 innings. A low 19% strikeout rate and a fortunate .177 BABIP indicate regression is forthcoming. Still, on Friday, Kuhl draws a road start against an Arizona Diamondbacks lineup averaging the seventh-worst wOBA and seventh-lowest runs per game in baseball. The Diamondbacks fan over 25% of the time, giving Kuhl some strikeout upside as a streamer or DFS option.
  • Injuries have paved the way for Minnesota Twins rookie right-hander Josh Winder(2%) to get another start after limiting the Tampa Bay Rays to just a pair of hits over six scoreless frames, fanning seven to open May. Next up is an Oakland Athletics lineup toting the second-worst wOBA and strikeout rate into Target Field. Consider Winder for DFS, as a streamer, and also in play to beat his strikeout prop.
    • Two risky, but viable spot-starters are Alex Cobb (34%) and Jordan Lyles (2%). Cobb opened the season with a strong effort but struggled in his next two outings. On Friday, he and the San Francisco Giants host the St. Louis Cardinals. Cobb's struggles have led to impatient fantasy managers setting him free. He's too good to continue in a rut, putting him in play as a potentially low-rostered DFS play. Lyles, for his part, has pitched well at home in the remodeled Camden Yards. Look for that trend to continue when the Baltimore Oriolesentertain the Kansas City Royals and their third-lowest wOBA.
    • The Cincinnati Reds will try to get things going at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates. A recent series at Coors Field couldn't get the Reds' bats going and they did only marginally better in Milwaukee. Perhaps some home cooking against Pittsburgh pitching will do the trick. Look for both sides to score some runs as Connor Overton takes the hill for the hosts, to be opposed by JT Brubaker. Tommy Pham(38%), Mike Moustakas (10%) and Brandon Drury (1%) are in play as home hitting streamers or DFS plays with Daniel Vogelbach (7%), Michael Chavis (4%), and Ben Gamel (1%) the best options from the visitors.

Meadows was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Astros due to a non-COVID illness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Spin:Meadows was initially slated to start in right field and bat third Friday, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench as he deals with an illness. Robbie Grossman will shift to right field while Willi Castro enters the lineup in left. Meadows should tentatively be considered day-to-day following Friday's scratch.

Kelenic isn't starting Friday against the Rays.
Spin:Kelenic has gone 0-for-11 with two walks and three strikeouts over his last five games, and he'll be on the bench for a second straight matchup. Dylan Moore will start in right field and bat eighth.

Correa (finger) underwent a CT scan Friday that didn't reveal a fracture, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Spin:Correa was initially believed to be dealing with a non-displaced fracture in his right middle finger after being hit by a pitch Thursday against the Orioles, but the finger is ultimately just bruised and sore. President of baseball operations Derek Falvey said the shortstop is considered day-to-day for now, so it's possible he'll avoid a trip to the injured list. Royce Lewis was called up from Triple-A St. Paul and will start at shortstop Friday against the Athletics.

Hernandez (oblique) has arrived in Cleveland and is expected to be available for the Blue Jays' weekend series against the Guardians, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.
Spin:Hernandez played in a final rehab game at Single-A Dunedin on Thursday, and he ultimately went 5-for-11 with two homers, two doubles, four runs, four RBI and a steal over three minor-league matchups during his rehab assignment. The 29-year-old should be reinstated from the 10-day injured list prior to Saturday's doubleheader against Cleveland.

Torkelson is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros.
Spin:Torkelson sits for just the third time this season. He's in a bit of a slump, going 1-for-23 at the plate across his last seven games. Harold Castro will be the first baseman Friday.

Can’t believe he’s 69% owned in fantasy lol. I am rooting against him because my wife’s nephew is a first baseman in Detroit’s double A team. Not very nice of me huh. TORKELSON was the first overall pick in 2020 hasn’t had a hit in a week lol

Hernandez (illness) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Spin:The Red Sox said Thursday that Hernandez has tested negative for COVID-19, but he's away from the team and will land on the injured list. He'll be eligible to return as soon as he clears the league's protocols, but Jarren Duran was called up to take his place on the active roster, and the prospect will start in center field and lead off Friday against the White Sox.

Lyles won't start Friday against the Royals as planned, as the game has been rained out, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Spin:More rain is in the forecast Saturday, so Friday's game has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader Sunday. Lyles is scheduled to start Saturday's game against Kansas City, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
