Tropicana Las Vegas set for implosion, demo company says© Provided by DC News Now
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Tropicana Las Vegas is planned to go up in dust via an implosion in late 2024, according to the demolition company that has imploded several Las Vegas Strip resorts before.
On Thursday, Mark Loizeaux, president of Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI), confirmed to 8newsnow.com that “CDI has received a written confirmation that we will be imploding the Tropicana structures later this year.” He continued that “there is a lot of ground to cover before we could provide specific information.”

Bally’s Corporation, the operator of the 1950s relic, already announced that demolition would commence sometime in October without detailing how the two hotel towers would come down. Thursday morning, a spokesperson did not confirm the implosion decision and declined to comment.
Controlled Demolition, Inc. has decades of Las Vegas implosions under its belt, from The Landmark Hotel in 1995 to, most recently, the Riviera Hotel in 2016.
Bally’s Corporation has a checklist of requirements to achieve prior to a potential implosion, such as securing dust control and asbestos abatement permits, creating crowd and traffic control plans, and even securing a special events permit. Several local and state entities would approve the implosion.
