Maybe I shouldn't be surprised its happening in the US now.

It happens A LOT in Mexico. We used to ship railcars of chemicals to plants in Mexico and paid a security company to board the train (armed) at the border and guard the railcars. Cost a mint but you had to do it or your railcar would "disappear".

Looking back on the past it now how easy was it robbing banks, stores, etc if planned well??

No security or doorbell cameras anywhere and a much more trusting society

On those roadtripst to Falgstaff I was making you can see those trains out there in the desert, far from the roads. Those trains are long as hell.

They are in the middle of nothing, probably need special vehicles just to get there.

I think some of the places are only really accessible by helicopter.

This is what puzzles me.... The transporting of the stuff.

They had to be specific about where they were stopping the train so BOX TRUCKS could access the area.
