I definitely agree JJ. The way things we're going before with the playoffs and then the NBA championship was fine. Why they needed to throw an in-season tournament champion thing into the mix I'll never understand

I get it in the WNBA it makes sense and those players deserve a chance to make some extra cash given how much I feel like they already don't get paid that much. The NBA does it because of TV and money. Sell more merchandise and keep suckers interested in watching otherwise meaningless games.

Same issue with baseball - who the hell wants to spend a couple hundred bucks on a Tuesday night going out to watch the local team that’s barely above .500 okay some other mediocre team ?

Unless you’re getting to see top tier talent in a meaningful game - fans have short attention spans. This way you can sell fans that the game is “important” - when reality is it’s pretty meaningless.
