I didn't know the history till now. haha
"Back in 1981, Nintendo of America was struggling to make a name in the US. One day, their landlord, Mario Segale, stormed into a meeting demanding overdue rent. It was a pretty embarrassing moment for Nintendo’s president, Minoru Arakawa.
But instead of just being flustered, the team took inspiration from the encounter. They had a new arcade game coming out—Donkey Kong—and the main character didn’t even have a real name yet. They’d just been calling him “Jumpman.”
So what did they do? They named him Mario, after their fiery landlord. And the rest is history.
That same year, Donkey Kong exploded in popularity. Nintendo sold about 60,000 arcade machines and made around $100 million in sales. Not bad for a game born out of a rent dispute!"
