First off I am very much opposed to censorship of any kind in most cases. I don't know how many people have watched this series here but I do remember it being mentioned in the binge watching thread.
Reason I bring this up is I see it recently has been added to Netflix lineup. I will probably have to watch it again to reevaluate my feelings towards this show but I did watch the original . At first I was drawn into ito it as i like Kevin Bacon in general.
Anyway I watched and as time went on this show gave me a sick feeling. I think it uses gore for cheap entertainment and to garner top ratings Granted I I've never been a fan of the slasher horror movies that have been out for the last 20-30 years. What troubles me is knowing sick people already with issues watching this garbage might get new ideas. This especially applies to young impressionable minds that already deal with the madness going on in schools and our lives in this country last few years.

Anyway I'd like to hear any opinions you might have on this subject pro or con. To be clear very little in literature, media, or normal conversation can offend or shock me personally but I do choose to avoid certain forms of (entertainment?) when I see it having no redeeming value.

I vaguely remember that show but never watched it so don’t know how gory it was. But generally I’m fine with violence and gore to an extent where it’s not excessive. Like the Supreme Court said about porn, I know it when I see it.

I do like horror and gore (Hostel and Texas Chainsaw are great) but can’t think of tv shows like that. Netflix has Mindhunter, You, Hannibal, Dhamer and the Narcos series which I highly enjoyed but my mom and gf would find disgusting. First four shows are about serial killers and all five shows were either based on true events or inspired by true people.

I think art is more inspired by life than art inspiring life. There are sick and stupid people no matter what. When “You” came out there were women who romanticized about Joe, the serial killer. In real life, there are some women who fall in love with serial killers when they are on trial. For instance, some idiot married the Night Stalker either during trial or after he was imprisoned. So basically I don’t think tv shows warp people as people are already deranged. I watched and enjoyed Looney Tunes and today kids complained about that violence but I turned out ok. Same complaining kids watched 24/7 social media and look how sick they became.

In regards to censorship, I think we should be worried about censorship of substance rather then gore and violence.. My favorite sports tv show, Playmakers, was cancelled after 1 great season by ESPN because the NFL didn’t like them “tackling” real issues (pun intended). Jimmy Kimble and Colbert were censored (don’t want to go completely political) but it was due to substance. Let freedom of speech breathe and it will build a better society. If not, then you get unhealthy mentally unstable idiots causing more harm onto others.

I’m sure your parents felt the same way about those damn, dirty, drugged-up, long hair hippies you’re into…..

Look guys I dont think it should be censored by any means. I guess it was something about this show that really bothered meband maybe it wasn't the violence snd gore after all. Mayve its just a matter of taste here. I am going have to rewatch and reevaluate what I am thinking.
Hell to be honest I love Silence of the Lambs, Braveheart, Game of Thrones, Gladiator, etc. Dexter,Ozark are some of my very favorites.
Movies with serial killers and psychos that are well done I usually enjoy. Violence in itself doesnt bother me.
Probably stupid to have brought this particular series up here Maybe I thought it wasn't well done and main objective was to sensational the acts by the cult. I thought there were scenes of babies being cut out of the mother but I need to remind myself again of the details.

Keith , I havent seen the series and concur that Kevin Bacon is an actor i follow in general. I dont watch horror or gore per say , but i love murder/mystery type of shows like Dateline/20/20 / 48hrs /City confidential etc. I will say that Mindhunter was extremely interesting and had my wife and i binging the show once we got hooked. Sad that they ran out of money and couldnt continue with Season 3 , especially after all the build up to The BTK killer. As for censorship, i was raised by European immigrants where nudity is commonplace and watching violence was frowned upon. Seeing that this site has a very strong bias towards gun ownership , Donald Trump , Racism and bigotry in general , i will refrain from such commentary as i am a Canadian and opposed to all of the above here at BMR.

As Bob Marley stated " ONE LOVE ". I judge people by their character and not the colour of their skin or ethnicity

If we have to start worrying baout things on tv warping the minds of impressionable kids, there will be nothing on tv. Instead of censoring tv and movies as a whole, maybe parents can actually parent and stop letting social media dictate the direction their kids take in life.
