Major League Baseball’s new rules caused Twitter to have some problems and we have a perfect solution. We also look at some of the top moments in various sports from the weekend, including the improbable Spartans/Hawkeyes outcome.
Alabama’s Brandon Miller pulled a foolish stunt in case you missed it and Mark Cuban was not amused with his Dallas squad blowing a massive lead. This and much much more.
About Last Weekend…
NBA
Yesterday we saw what could be a Western Conference finals matchup. The Clippers outscored Denver by 9 in the fourth quarter to tie the game. The Nuggets didn’t fold in OT, outscoring the Clips 14-4 for the 10-point victory. If you had Denver -2 or -2.5, your disappointment went from sorrow to joy.The Milwaukee Bucks have won 14 in a row (9-4-1 ATS) after knocking off Phoenix Sunday. With Giannis out and Khris Middleton still working his way back, Jrue Holiday has taken the role of lead deer (I guess) and showed he is still an elite two-way guard on a championship-quality club.
NCAAB
Saturday was a wild day in college basketball with highly-ranked teams getting beat or barely surviving. The game of the day Saturday was Michigan State at Iowa. The Spartans were up 11 with 65 seconds to play as 5.5-point underdogs. This was mostly accomplished by making an unfathomable 11 of 13 threes.
Despite making five of six free throws in the final 29 seconds, the Spartans could only watch the Hawkeyes drop five 3’s in the last 39 seconds to tie the game. With the crowd in disbelief in Iowa City, Iowa somehow won by six in the last seconds of OT to cover.
Yesterday, Penn State was up 19 at home with 17:02 to go in the game as 2.5-point favorites and lost 59-56 to Rutgers. The Nittany Lions might have to reach the Big Ten title game to enter the Big Dance now.
Ohio State dominated a listless Illinois team Sunday as 2.5-point underdogs to win 72-60 and the Buckeyes are now 2-14 SU and ATS since January 4th.
XFL
The revised league had two blowouts and two good games this weekend. The quality of the quarterback play continues to be the difference along with what happens at the line of scrimmage. It is more than watchable and if you are betting on the side or the total, you can be drawn in.

The Buzz
LIV Golf
The LIV Golf season started this weekend and despite their bots and foot soldiers saying “everyone loves us” and “millions tuned in” those stations that carried the event on the CW network had a rating of 0.2 on Saturday. (Sunday’s numbers are not yet available.)Granted, not every golf fan knows where the CW network is on the cable package or for streaming purposes which will take some time, but now there will be factual proof of their product, not just “salespeople” hyping it.
MLB – New Rules and Working Out the Kinks
Major League Baseball is trying to alter the tempo of the games to have more of a pace. This weekend there were some odd instances of rules going into effect and odd outcomes like a batter being called on on a 3-2 count with the bases loaded of a tie game in the bottom of the ninth.
Everyone needs to relax, change seldom comes easy and nobody claimed this was going to be a 100 percent simple transition.
This writer went to see the Cubs vs. Dodgers on Sunday and truly liked the pace and more people were actually watching because the action was coming quicker. Let’s not overreact and see how it plays out, it still is February.
NCAAB – Brandon Miller Needs to Grow Up
A lot of people were surprised that Brandon Miller of Alabama played after being at least part of the story of a person murdered in Tuscaloosa. Though only a freshman and god knows we all did stupid things at that age when Miller did this…
It showed a lack of understanding and compassion. Coach Nate Oats immediately addressed the situation after the Tide’s narrow win over Arkansas and stated it was dealt with and it would be an issue moving forward.

Top Betting System
NCAAB – Sacramento State at Portland State (Totals 143.5)
Play Over on home teams like Portland State against the total after five straight games committing 14 or fewer turnovers, against an opponent after three straight games committing 6+ more turnovers than opponents. This rare system is 26-8 Over, with an average total score of 150.1 PPG.
Out the Door
NBA – Knicks in Rarified Air
The New York Knicks host Boston tonight and they are on a 5-0 SU and ATS tear. Not only are the Knickerbockers winning, but they are also doing so in a fashion we are not used to seeing.NBA – Couldn't Wait to See Luka and Kyrie Together?
Dallas has a 27-point lead on the L.A. Lakers Sunday. They still managed to lose 111-108 as 4.5-point home faves. We bet owner Mark Cuban is thrilled his new backcourt is 1-3 SU playing together. https://twitter.com/WerderEdESPN/status/1630010185006698498?s=20
