Russell Wilson is coming off like a real jerk in a new report, we have some of the details. A wild outcome between the Grizzlies and 76ers left bettors happy and sad depending on what side you had.
This and a potpourri of sports betting material including an NBA quick study we performed and more for your enjoyment.
About Last Night…
NBA
Seldom does an NBA wager ever feel comfortable because it is inevitable that it comes down to the last couple of minutes. Memphis at +3.5 had the spread covered for 47 minutes and 53 seconds against Philadelphia. The 76ers outscored the Grizzlies 35-24 in the final quarter and made two free throws with 6.1 seconds left and James Harden blocked Dillon Brooks’ 27-foot three-point jumper to seal it. Unreal for Memphis backers.
Denver had an impressive victory at Cleveland, winning 115-109 as 2.5-point road underdogs. Nikola Jokic had a triple-double for the Nuggets who out-pointed the Cavs 26-18 in the final quarter.
NCAAB
Illinois was down 18 at home at the half to in-state rival Northwestern and was dead in the water. But Illini coach Brad Underwood got after his team in the intermission and Terrence Shannon Jr. took it to heart and the Fighting Illini was just that in the final 20 minutes, outscoring the Wildcats by 47-25 to win 66-62. At least Northwestern backers covered the +7.5, though it had to be disappointing.Speaking of disappointing, UCLA bettors were giving -7 to Utah and were up 16 with 10:30 left in the game. The Utes started chipping away. With three seconds left Utah was down eight when UCLA fouled for some reason. The Utes could have covered the spread with two made from the charity stripe, but they went one for two and both parties got a Push.
NHL
Vegas looked like a solid bet at -130 NHL odds over Calgary who had played the night before and had lost seven straight in Sin City. The Flames were hot to start and had a 3-1 lead going into the third period. The Golden Knights didn’t stop working and tallied twice to tie it and won in OT, making them 8-0 hosting Calgary.

The Buzz
NCAAB – Ole Miss Fires Head Coach
Kermit Davis was launched this morning in Mississippi. The way-too-early candidates for the job are Chris Beard (who could be a tough hire because of NCAA hoops), Will Wade, and Dusty May.NFL – Russell Wilson’s Image More Tarnished
The Athletic dropped a bombshell that Wilson tried to get Peter Carroll and GM John Schneider fired, unhappy as it turned out for years about Seattle’s offensive direction.Wilson was later traded to Denver, where he had his own office on the same floor as the coaches (we’re told this doesn’t happen) along with his people which included “his” QB coach, not just the one the Broncos had.
Wilson today denied all this, but given his now “diva reputation” it seems much of this is true.
NBA – Hawks Honing In on the Mighty Quin
Today we have learned that Quin Snyder and Atlanta are close to a new deal to make him their head coach.NCAAF – Harbaugh a “Michigan Man”
Jim Harbaugh said this week he’ll be in Ann Arbor “as long as Michigan wants me here,”. Sounds good, but we know he just can’t get hired for the kind of money he wants to make in the NFL.
Top Betting System
NBA – Nets at Bulls (-2)
Play Against home teams like Chicago when the line is +3 to -3, after being beaten by the spread by 18 or more points total in their last three games, against an opponent after going over the total by 54 or more points total in their last ten games. In the past five years, teams like Chicago are 8-33 ATS in this situation, losing by 5.7 PPG.
Out the Door
NBA – Interesting Info
We know NBA scoring is up with less emphasis on defense. I was curious about this uncovered explainable information. There is something called points per possession and former ESPN NBA writer John Hollinger developed a method to determine offensive and defensive efficiency.
This season, Cleveland is No. 1 in defensive efficiency at 107.1 points allowed per 100 possessions. In the past four years, here are the number of teams that were lower than the mark of 107.
- 2022: 7
- 2021: 4
- 2020: 8
- 2019: 15
- 2022: 2
- 2021: 3
- 2020: 0
- 2019: 0
The bottom line, at least in the regular season, the offense is being stressed more than the defense. The NBA has definitely changed.
