The World Baseball Classic was a complete success and many are already talking about how much better it could be in three years when it happens again. The L.A. Clippers lost the game and Paul George last night, what might that mean for them?
This along with more basketball talk and free picks along with the hottest trends.
About Last Night…
WBC
Not sure what the lasting effects of the WBC will be but if anything can give baseball a boost, this did it. With each passing season, it is getting harder to put into words the greatness of Shohei Ohtani. There is seemingly nothing he cannot do on a baseball field.Congrats to Japan for winning, they earned it and this should resume in three years.
NBA
It seemed like such a great idea to bring Paul George and Kawhi Leonard together in L.A. Both have been in and out of the lineup since becoming Clippers. Though the Clippers have hardly been great this season listed 5th in the Western Conference, losing at home to Oklahoma City 101-100 as seven-point home favorites was bad enough, then losing George to what appeared was at best a significant injury just made the situation worse.NHL
Washington has scuffled all season and going into last night they were just six points from tying for the last wild card spot in the East. Ahead 3-0 in the first period at home against Columbus, who has the fewest points in the league, this should have made Caps backers at -240 feel secure. But Washington’s defense has been an issue all year and Columbus started chipping and tied the game at 5-5 and later 6-6 with 47 seconds remaining. In OT, the Blue Jackets tallied the game-winner, sending the Capitals to their third consecutive loss. That is likely the last nail in the coffin for Washington.
Other March Madness
While the NCAA Tournament has been wild, the minor tournaments have also been fun to watch. The CBI has had five OT games among the 14 played and Eastern Kentucky has played three of them, winning each time and they face Charlotte for the championship today. This is EKU’s fourth game in four days and they are 5.5-point underdogs.
North Texas is heading to the Big Apple to play in the NIT semis after upsetting Oklahoma State 65-59 in OT. They will be joined by Wisconsin who upset Oregon on the road last by 3 as 1.5-point underdogs.
Also, if you had the Under for the Mean Green/Cowboys at 121, our condolences. Overtime is where the 'Under' goes to die.

NBA – Atlanta Hawks Coaching Change Doing Nothing
I’m old enough to remember when Atlanta fired Nate McMillan this season for supposedly being too “old school” when all he was doing was telling Hawks players the truth. Well, look how things have changed!NBA – Thunder Knocks Off Clippers and Makes History
With OKC’s win on Tuesday, they got back to .500 at 36-36, their first time being .500 or better since they were 4-4. The Thunder had lost their last nine games where they had a chance to reach .500, the longest such losing streak in a single season in NBA history.NCAAB – Providence Fans Flabbergasted
You are probably like us, sort of wondering why Ed Cooley moved from the Providence job to Georgetown. It’s not like the Hoyas have been relevant for some time and Cooley made the Friars a rather consistent 20-game-a-year winner. What is the appeal for Cooley? Reports emerged that Cooley always had coveted the G-Town job and when finally offered it, he jumped. Whether we agree or not, if that is your dream, it makes sense to follow it.

NBA – 76ers (-3.5) vs. Bulls
Play On road teams like Philadelphia revenging a straight-up loss as a home favorite of seven or more points or more. This just happened to the Sixers on Monday versus Chicago. Teams like Philly are 25-5 ATS in this situation since 2018.Out the Door
WBC – Japan Pitchers and Going Overboard
If you have followed the game of baseball, you should know that Japanese pitchers for years were known for curveballs and sliders and seldom breaking 90 MPH. If you watched them in the tournament, they had plenty of hard throwers and often it was filthy with the movement. That was a learning experience.More than enough people on Twitter were whining that MLB doesn’t need new rules with the WBC not using them. Before we go crazy, we had many of the best players in the world playing, there was a pace to the games and most of the televised contests were close and exciting.
If that was going to happen every day in the majors we might agree, but get back to us after watching the Pirates/Reds or A’s/Tigers series this season.
