Despite no game for more than 10 days, the NFL stays in the news with the GOAT retiring for “good” and coaching hires.

Speaking of the NFL, the Tennessee Titans are giving up grass for the fake stuff and we explain why and other fascinating Super Bowl betting angles. This and today’s top trends and cool betting system to ponder.

About Last Night…

NFL

Tom Brady, as you probably have heard, retired today and that seems like a smart move. Don’t think for a moment he didn’t want to come back, because you know he did. However, his options to play on a true Super Bowl contender were maybe Miami and the Dolphins are, at least for now, committed to Tua.

The New York Jets might have been an option, but that was to just become a playoff team, not a club with serious Super Bowl aspirations.

Two coaching hires also with Sean Payton going to Denver to fix Russell Wilson and the Broncos' offense. And, DeMeco Ryans goes to Houston, as a team with some young talent, but is still at least two drafts and a quarterback away from being a playoff team.

Denver has to win almost immediately with $161 million guaranteed to Wilson and reports of $20 million a year to Payton. Additionally giving up seven draft picks (including three first-rounders and three second-rounders) for their expensive two-some.

NCAAB

Another quality night for underdogs in the MAC at 4-2 ATS.

Kansas opened at -7 over in-state rival Kansas State and Tuesday afternoon reached -9 and there was a flood of sharp and public money convinced that was too high on the Jayhawks and the number settled at -8.5 at tipoff. Turns out the steam was correct as Kansas built an 8-10 lead in the first half and covered in the end with a 90-78 home victory.

Alabama gave an atrocious performance Saturday in losing at Oklahoma by 24. After three consecutive poor shooting games, the Crimson Tide at -15 against Vanderbilt was too rich for those making college basketball picks and 70% of the bets were on Vandy.

Instead, the Tide rolled in an absolute beatdown 101-44. It gets crazier from there. Despite Bama breaking triple digits, the total of 155 was an easy winner for Under bettors.

NBA

With last night’s loss to the L.A. Clippers, the Chicago Bulls ended January losing four games in which they had leads of at least 15 points and five in which they led by double digits. The Bulls finished January 7-7 and 8-6 ATS and it could have been better with more defense.

Trendy Talk

NBA

  • Detroit is 1-15 ATS revenging a same-season loss.
  • Houston is 11-31 ATS playing against a marginal losing team (Win Pct. 40% to 49%) since 2020.
  • Portland is 2-13 ATS in road games when the total is 230 or higher.
  • San Antonio is 12-1 Over playing against a marginal winning team (Win Pct. 51% to 60%) this season.

NCAAB

  • East Tenn. State is 0-10 ATS in all home games this season.
  • N.C. State is 2-16 ATS after a game with 9 or less assists since last year.

NHL

  • Buffalo is 0-7 in home games versus teams outscoring their opponents by 0.5+ goals a game.
  • Boston is 17-5 playing against a team with a winning record this season.

NFL Playoffs

  • Kansas City is 0-7 ATS after one or more wins against the spread this season.

The Buzz

NFL - Same Old, Same Old in the Desert

Arizona Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill fired his head coach and GM and had a chance to make a real splash that this organization really wanted to win, hiring Sean Payton.

Now that that has failed and everyone’s second-best choice DeMeco Ryans is off the board, how do the Cardinals explain this to their fans? Maybe the Redbirds will find the next Nick Sirianni and all will be forgotten, but who would take Arizona and Over for a futures bet for 2023?

NFL – Tennessee Goes Against the Grain, Literally

The Tennessee Titans announced they will tear up their grass field and put in the last type of artificial turf. This season there were several reports of artificial turf causing more injuries, however, the Titans have suffered more injuries than any NFL team the past two years and are convinced the hardness of the ground and lack of grass later in the season is to blame.

Super Bowl – Most Bet Super Bowl Prop Thus Far

  • Travis Kelce Anytime Touchdown (Odds vary by sportsbook)
Kelce has 14 TDs in 13 playoff games.

Weather – Ice, Ice Baby!

An ice storm is going across the country and canceled the Wizards/Pistons game and Tarleton vs. UT Arlington tonight.

Top Betting System

NCAAB – New Mexico vs. Utah State (-4.5)

Play against road underdogs of 3.5 to 9.5 points like New Mexico in a game involving two teams making 73% or more of their free throws, after four straight games making 47% or more of their shots. This rare system has the Lobos at 7-28 ATS (20%) the 25 years.

Out the Door

Super Bowl Fodder – There Will Be More

  • There have been six previous quarterbacks that made the Super Bowl after leading the NFL in passing that season. Each lost the Big Game. Will Patrick Mahomes be the next victim?

  • The winning team has not trailed in the first quarter of the last dozen games.
  • The shortest touchdown was Under 1.5 yds in 6 of the 7 contests.

NHL – Betting Totals

With the All-Star breaks at hand, you can contemplate these numbers against the NHL odds when they return on Monday.

Best Over Teams:

  • Oilers 32-15-3
  • Sharks 33-18
  • Blues 30-19-2
  • Canucks 30-18-1
Best Under Teams:
  • Jets 35-15-2
  • Avalanche 31-17
  • Senators 30-19-1
  • Stars 30-19-1

NFL – Russell Wilson

Do you think Russell Wilson is done as a high-level QB or does Payton revitalize his career?

Who Is Right?

In A-10 play tonight, St. Bonaventure is at Richmond. This is a rematch from 18 days ago that was won by the Bonnies at home 71-63, which went off as a Pick. The Spiders opened and have remained a five-point home favorite with these two middle-of-the-road A-10 squads.

At 02:30 PM EST, St. Bonnie’s was drawing 65% of the money and Richmond was just below 70% on bets placed. What is the right side in your opinion?

Let’s get some winners! See you back here Friday.
