Last night and even this morning, the Boston Celtics' lack of desire Sunday was the hottest topic on social media and we have our thoughts also.
The PGA Championship was fun to watch but a pro from California stole the show in grabbing our emotions. The Toronto Blue Jays picked the wrong week to go into a slump and what about all these injuries to starting pitchers? This and the top trends of the next two days.
About Last Weekend…
NBA
Wow, a choke job for the ages. Down 0-2, most NBA fans and for sure the Celtics management assumed, and rightly so their team would come to play. Instead, Boston players were whining and complaining about every call instead of playing defense.Erik Spoelstra is outcoaching Joe Mazzulla and let’s be honest, it was noble of Mazzulla to fall on the sword for his team after Game 3. The fact is this was a desperation game for the Celtics players and they couldn’t bother to show, seemingly too arrogant enough to think they were still better. Don’t forget, this is the same Boston team that was 2-1 on Golden State in last year’s Finals and lost the next three.
The Lakers just don’t matchup up well with Denver. This series could end tonight or Wednesday at the latest.
NHL
Four games, and four OTs in the conference finals, that’s incredible. The odd aspect is the razor-thin margin between all the games yet, somehow the team ahead has made one more play in two different series.Though shots on goal are not a great predictor of who will win a particular game, that is generally accurate long term. Interesting to note the winning team has been outshot three times and the other had a one-shot edge.
MLB
What a horrible week for the Toronto Blue Jays. Having one of the best home records in baseball to start the week, they went 1-6, losing to the Yankees and Orioles. They scored 22 total runs and their bullpen woes continued. All six setbacks were the favorite and they have tumbled into last place in the AL East. Now, they just have to face two AL first-place teams on the road this week the Rays and Twins. The St. Louis Cardinals took three of four against the Dodgers and are on an 11-3 tear. The Cardinals are still only 21-27, but they have moved with six games of first place Milwaukee in the NL Central.
The Texas Rangers swept Colorado, which was not a shocker. But you should know despite how Tampa Bay has played, Texas is only three games behind in the overall AL standings and they have the second-best run differential in baseball.
Golf
There were two awesome storylines at the PGA Championship. Brooks Koepka and Michael Block.Koepka is healthy again and is back to the player he was a few years ago and always a contender in the majors. Block is a 46-year-old club pro from California who captured the golf world this weekend with his amazing play and the hole-in-one that won’t be soon forgotten. Just a fabulous story!

NBA – Miami’s Pat Riley
Pat Riley might be crazy and maniacal about certain things, but he knows how to build winners.MLB – Pitching Injuries
The number of starting pitchers on the IL is staggering. Top teams like Tampa Bay, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Atlanta are trying to survive by bringing up minor-league pitchers to fill in the blanks. The Dodgers on Monday and Tuesday are reportedly using Gavin Stone and Bobby Miller to replace Dustin May and Julio Urias who are on the IL.
With all these injuries, the Rays bullpen has gone from 1st to 15th in run prevention, the Braves are 12th and the Dodgers are 24th.
Baseball has to figure out a better way to train pitchers, current methods are not working.
Top Betting System
MLB – Athletics at Mariners (-305 ML, -150 RL)
Play Against AL road underdogs with a money line of +150 or more like Oakland that are allowing 4.9 or more runs a game on the season, after a combined score of three runs or less. Teams like the A’s a 5-44 in this situation and this should have solid run potential since they are losing by 2.4 RPG.Out the Door
