With no NBA this week, this is the quietest weekend of sports since before the start of college football last September. After becoming the No. 1 team for a second time, the Purdue Boilermakers are struggling and we explain how it is happening.

While the Suns are garnering headlines, the L.A. Clippers are quietly making a move and they should be watched moving forward. This and news about OC Eric Bieniemy taking his act on the road, along with Top Trends, Free Picks, Super System and Fade or Follow Picks.

About Last Night...

NBA

Milwaukee closed out their season to date by beating division rival Chicago 112-100 as 8-point favorites. The Bucks are tied with Boston for the fewest losses at 17 and having Jrue Holiday and Brook Lopez as the team’s leading scorers in the last two contests is a positive development for Milwaukee.

While Phoenix is going gaga for Kevin Durant, you might want to look at the L.A. Clippers. The Clips are now completely healthy and whipped the Suns on the road and have won 10 of 14 and have taken over the No. 4 slot in the West.

NCAAB

There was a fishy line last night and that proved prophetic as Purdue lost 68-54 at Maryland as just a one-point road fave. The Boilermakers have lost three of four and there is now a working formula against them. Opposing teams are doubling Zack Edey within seven feet of the basket, as he’s not a great passer and if they can force him to catch the ball further out, they guard everyone else hard on the perimeter. Edey was 8 for 16 shooting with the others on Purdue 14 for 34 (41.1%).

Conference USA leader Florida Atlantic was 24-2 going into last night and they fell to Middle Tennessee State 74-70 as four-point road favorites. The Owls returned to the Top 25 last week and just as the time before last month, they promptly lost their next contest.

UCLA was down four points at home to a motivated Stanford squad, then got interested and won by nine, never threatening to cover the -14.

The Cal Bears are horrific. They are 3-23 on the season and 2-13 in the Pac-12 and lost by 37 at USC as 16-point chalky underdogs. The Bears betting odds at UCLA should be ginormous.

NHL

St. Louis was 0-9 this season when facing a winning team at home. At +130 odds, they looked like they were play against material versus New Jersey, which has the best road record in the NHL, but the Blues hit all the right notes and won 4-2.

TRENDY TALK

CBB

  • San Jose State is 13-2 ATS after playing a game as an underdog.
  • Canisius is 2-8 ATS a game where they covered the spread.
  • YALE is 21-4 ATS as a road favorite of 3.5 to 6 points.
  • DAYTON is 10-1 over playing against a team with a losing record after 15 or more games since 2020.

NHL

  • ANAHEIM is 3-17 after a home game where both teams score three or more goals.
  • N.Y. Rangers are 26-6 after two or more consecutive overs.
  • Dallas is 9-0 under playing against a team with a winning record in the second half of the season.
  • Chicago is 9-2 under in road games after having lost three of their last four.

The Buzz

NBA – Kevin Love Looking to Move On

At 34, Kevin Love no longer fits in Cleveland with a younger, more athletic team and has requested a buy-out. On the presumption that happens, Phoenix or Miami are the most likely destinations.

NBA – Now This is Stupid, Grow Up

The NBA is looking to avoid a ‘last picked’ situation in the NBA All-Star draft this year, per TNT. NBA All-Star captains LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo will now pick reserve players first, then will pick the starters right after. Really.

NFL – Rumors in Eric Bieniemy

The Washington Commanders and Eric Bieniemy are reportedly close to making him their next offensive coordinator. One would imagine Bieniemy probably feels the shadows of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are holding him back from becoming a head coach.

However, the Washington QB situation is hardly ideal, but it is his call.

Top Betting System

NHL – Los Angeles PL -1.5 (-110) at Anaheim

Play against an underdog like Anaheim on the puck line being outscored by their opponents by 0.65+ goals a game, after allowing five goals or more in three straight games. Teams like the Ducks are 5-38 in this situation, losing by 2.0 GAG the past five years.
