Aaron Rodgers is back with the living and promised a decision soon on where he would like to play. We offer our thoughts. Golden State is on a blistering homestand and they have accomplished something very unique. There has been a buzz about Spring Training even more than usual, with the rules changes and we have proof and more. This and our usual array of Top Trends, Free Picks, and more for you!

About Last Night…

NBA

Golden State might not be on track to win another NBA crown, however, if they could just play home games they might be. The Warriors are 26-7 and 22-11 ATS at the Chase Center on the season. Tonight they wrap up a five-game homestand after destroying the suddenly hapless Clippers 115-91 as three-point underdogs.

The Warriors on this homestand have permitted just 100.1 PPG, compared to their season average at home of 111.9 PPG and opposing teams have shot just 40.3%.

Here is one other note on Golden State.

NCAAB

In early February, Rutgers was a lock to reach the NCAA Tournament. This is why there is no such thing as “a lock” because since, the Scarlet Knights are 2-5 SU, which includes losing to the worst team in the Big Ten, Minnesota Thursday, 75-74 as 8.5-point road favorites. Rutgers is 18-12 and will have to beat Northwestern Sunday and also reach the Big Ten semis to have a shot at their dream.

Old Dominion closed their regular season 8-2 SU and ATS to finish in a tie for 5th in the Sun Belt. More than one college basketball bettor thought the Monarchs could be a value wager against the NCAAB odds to win the SBC.

In ODU’s opening tourney game, they faced 6-12 (SBC record) Texas State as a four-point favorite and scored 14 points in the first half and 36 points for the game in losing by 29 to the Bobcats. The Monarchs shot 23.1% for the game. March Madness.

NHL

Minnesota had a hard-fought 2-1 win at Vancouver last night, which was their third straight victory and the Wild is 7-1-2 in their last 10 games. Minnesota has picked up five points on Dallas in this stretch and is only three points behind the Stars for the Central Division lead.

I know I have mentioned Boston here a lot this season, who is on a path to one of the best NHL regular seasons ever. They traded for Tyler Bertuzzi from Detroit to add to their forward depth. This maybe illustrates how dominant the Bruins are this far.

Toronto and Carolina have the 2nd and 3rd-best goals differentials at +47 and +46. Yet, combined, that is still below Boston which is at +103. Remarkable.

The Buzz

NFL – Aaron Rodgers

Now that E-Rod has emerged from the darkness, here is what we know.

By all appearances, Green Bay looks ready to move on and go with Jordan Love. If true, the most obvious landing spots for Rodgers are the Raiders and the Jets, yet, we have heard some hesitation on the Vegas side.

A team that might be emerging again is Nashville, as Rodgers is building a home there, the run defense is strong and they have Derrick Henry.

MLB – Baseball Timers – What a Difference!

Here is a great example of how baseball will look different in 2023 compared to the recent past.

Oh wait, here is an even more remarkable example:

NFL – Combine

Here is a question for you, do you like or watch the NFL Combine? Every year there is a buzz, but what do we ultimately learn from it?

Likely top draft choices seldom compete in any skill. Though you don’t have to watch it to learn something, look for the players that ran the fastest times for their positions and later see where they end up in the draft and what kind of production they have the following season.

Case in point, RB Isiah Pacheco of Rutgers was a 7th-round pick by Kansas City and ran a 4.35 40-yard dash a year ago. How did that turn out?

Top Betting System

NBA – Missouri State vs. Southern Illinois (-3)

This is a #6 vs. #3 Missouri Valley matchup and this quarterfinal contest is the last of the day on Friday. In this encounter, when the line is +3 to -3 in a conference tournament game, a team like Southern Illinois that wins 60% to 80% of their games, is playing a marginal winning team (51% to 60%), the better squad is 39-12 ATS since 2018.

Out the Door

NCAAB – Conference Tournament Time!

The Ohio Valley will be the first conference to receive an automatic bid on Saturday. On Sunday three more will happen, the Atlantic Sun, Big South and Missouri Valley will crown champions.

From a betting perspective, we would recommend watching all these games if not at least the 2nd half. You could find something about a team that is a lower seed that could cover their first contest.

MLB – Spring Training

This reporter has been to three games thus far in Arizona and here are quick thoughts.
  • Shelby Miller was once a good pitcher with St. Louis in 2013, when he was 15-9 with a 3.06 ERA. Ineffectiveness and injuries have sidetracked him and the Dodgers are giving him a look. He gave up three runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning and all we line drive shots. He looks done.
  • Anyone can have a bad outing but Colorado’s Austin Gomber started his game but was pulled in the first inning. He was reinserted in the second inning (you can do that in spring training) and was again so bad he was pulled.
  • Not much to like about the Rockies.
  • The Dodgers losing Gavin Lux hurts, nonetheless, Los Angeles will still score a lot of runs with their everyday lineup.
  • The Texas Rangers' win total is 82.5 and based on what I saw and have read, they will have a chance to go Over. They have five good starting pitchers and if the bottom of the batting order produces, this won’t be a bad club.
  • Not sure what I think of the Cubs and I’m puzzled by some bettors I respect like them for Over 77.5. I’m not there.
  • Arizona played mostly minor leaguers. Maybe, I’ll see them later to form a better opinion.
  • Really like all the changes MLB made.
