I rarely bet tennis so forgive my stupidity.

Is it normal for bets to be refunded mid match when a player retires? In this case they were losing tremendously.

Today I had Z. Piros to defeat L Riedi.

Piros won the first set 6-3 and was winning my the second set 3-1 when Riedi retired. Literally 3 games from the match being over.

Seems crazy to me someone can just retire and not take a loss when losing that heavily

Correct for most every book I've seen, it voids everything. Definitely has seemed like it's hurt me more than helped over the years but, yeah, an unfortunate part of betting the sport!

To your point how it was 3 games left, it'd be nice if they had some sort of rule like NFL where a score can be considered final even with an early end (weather) but anything that's gonna be so subjective to bickering, I can see why it's a black and white rule with the books-either final or void.

Some books have a rule as long as one set is complete it’s still graded a win or loss after a retirement.

Definitely a must to read rules on tennis before choosing a book.
