Good discussion.

Told me he uses and tests AI every day.

Said he doesn't think AI will get much more powerful than it is now and that we really don't need it as much as many think.

Said the reason companies like Google keep investing and pushing in AI is because all companies involved in AI need money from investors.

He said that in the off chance there is a quantum leap forward in technology, then those companies can't afford to get left behind if they don't invest in it.

Good discussion. Very smart guy.

Do think it will not become more advanced - absolutely not. It’s the natural progression of ANY technology.

Will it be an absolute game changer in every aspect of our lives - unlikely.

It’s a technology that has moderate applications in many aspects and more advanced applications in some. Repetitive applications for example - it will be useful. It’s not going to take over flipping burgers at your local fast food place - but it’s going to make it more efficient and reduce the need for labor there - things like ordering/predictive analytics and such. Just like it won’t eliminate the need for human contact - but it will reduce the need for entry level customer service.

The advantage is going to be elimination of hard to fill low level roles and saving companies from being held hostage by workers demanding $20 an hour for low level roles. Amazes me people who will turn up their nose at making $20 an hour at McDs - but will take $12 to work for some major employer because they have a title of assistant manager and promise of a promotion in 2 years.

End of the day - none of this will replace physical laborers. Those jobs will remain the next 100+ years.

I've not talked to any "EXPERTS" but have READ ALOT on the AI by MANY well Respected individuals on the TOPIC & it is something to be WATCHED very carefully & POSSIBLY FEARED.
Depending on your "EXPERT" he may be DOWN PLAYING it just as the DEMON-crats / LIBERALS have done on so many issues & then LOW & BEHOLD the REPUBLIC is in a SH-T HOLE.

As to your ? as to WHY I would want to know his or IT"S if that individual prefers a pronoun as I would like to do my DUE DILEGENCE and read some of the information that has been written or talked about on the subject by that entity.

Humans provide AI with input to function so we will always be in control

The types of problems with it aren’t end of the world stuff

It’s things that have already begun like creating images & video of people & things which are nearly impossible to tell if fake

People everywhere, especially females already having problems such as fake nudes being made that look real

He's in the field not a writer.

So you're a conspiracy theorist? You believe the bullshit AI is going to take over the world?

One of the things he told me was that AI takes up an enormous amount of energy. He said that is one of it's greatest drawbacks and why it won't get much stronger than it is now.

It will expedite things like material science faster than you can imagine which will in turn expedite technology. He's correct that there are two problems - compute (processing ) and physical power. These have already been solved for the most part, it's just a matter of building the infrastructure.

He's a regular guy who works for a company in the AI field in NJ.

I don't understand your point. Why do you think he should be an author or speak publicly?

He does actual work with it on a daily basis.

Tried this AI every night myself. Call up the girlfriend after work and tell her Aye I need you to come over make me dinner, pour me a drink, and show me some love. It turns out you get told to go fukk yourself over half the time while using it.

This.

One random guy who works with AI has no real clue what the leaders of industry have planned for it. They aren't pouring billions and billions of dollars into the advancement of it's future just so you can fabricate photos and get pre-generated summaries of emails. We may not be looking at Skynet in the next decade or so but the cat is out of the bag now. No country can afford to sit by and let others advance at a faster rate. The Russians and Chinese will pull out all the stops and defy ethics if needed to progress in this field. You better believe the USA will do the same even if it's being based in the desert in Nevada away from the public eye. Some random engineer in New Jersey is not going to be privy to what power sources this country has been working on for decades. Not a conspiracy, just common sense. Those inflated military budgets aren't just for PS5's for soldier in the Middle East.

Technically, there’s no such thing as an expert in any subject there’s people that are very, very knowledgeable, but nobody’s an expert

Lots of so called gambling experts hanging around forums.

That alone should tell you all you need to know about “experts”

What’s the old saying - experts built the Titanic, amateurs built the arc.

But this is a conspiracy theory.

Inflated military budgets? How do you know what it's for? Russians and Chinese?

The guy I talked to deals in facts. Not conjecture or conspiracy. He has his hands on this stuff every day.

It's cool to speculate but to think that AI is going to go Terminator on us is for the movies.

Saw him today...asked him to expound on his point that AI won't get much stronger than it is now.

He said the main reason it won't is because in order for AI to train and expand, it needs data and we don't have any more data to feed it as we've already given it the whole internet.

It has no ability to solve new problems that might arise in the future. It cannot innovate, or invent.
