My selection is on the 'under' between St. Louis and Miami at 6:40 pm et on Thursday.

We've already seen a pair of low-scoring games between these two teams in this series and I anticipate more of the same on Thursday. Of course, that's been the norm when the Cards and Marlins match up with the 'under' going 6-0-1 in seven meetings going back to the start of last season. Jordan Hicks will get a spot start for St. Louis. He has some experience at the big league level but only in a relief role. I don't think too much will be asked of him on Thursday. Instead look for the Cards to lean on their stellar bullpen, which entered last night's action sporting a 1.95 ERA and 1.11 WHIP.

The Marlins will give the ball to Pablo Lopez as they look to salvage the finale of this three-game series. Lopez has pitched well through two starts this season, posting a 0.87 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. Miami's bullpen has proven effective in the early going this season as well, recording a collective 2.95 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. Expect runs to come at a premium again tonight. Take the under.

ANALYSIS: The big question mark surrounding this game is the status of Luka Doncic (calf), who is officially listed as questionable. He didn’t play in either of the first two games of the series, but it’s still tied at one game apiece. Jalen Brunson exploded for 41 points to help the Mavericks win Game 2, and even Game 1 was close considering they lost by just six points. If Doncic plays, they could win Game 3 outright. If he sits, I still think the Mavericks can keep things close. It’s also worth noting that the Jazz are just 17-22-1 ATS as home favorites.

ANALYSIS: The Grizzlies went into this series as heavy favorites, but surprisingly lost Game 1. They rebounded in Game 2, blowing out the Timberwolves by 28 points. A key adjustment that they made in Game 2 was only playing Steven Adams three minutes. The Timberwolves play at a fast pace and have big men who often play outside the three-point line, so this is not a good matchup for him. With the expectation that they continue to play Brandon Clarke, and maybe even Xavier Tillman, more, I think the Grizzlies will re-take homecourt advantage with a win in this game.

Thursday's MLB Pick (Twins -108)

I will take my chances with the Twins at basically even money on the road against the Royals on Thursday. On paper this looks like a really good pitching matchup. KC's Zack Greinke has a 2.45 ERA and 1.091 WHIP in his first two starts. Minnesota's Joe Ryan has a 2.70 ERA and 1.100 WHIP in his first two starts.

I was really high on Ryan coming into this year. I really thought he had a chance to emerge as not just the ace of the Twins' staff, but be one of the top starters in the AL. I see no reason not to think that will happen.

As for Greinke, I'm not sold on his great numbers to start the year. What that great ERA and WHIP doesn't show is that Greinke has just 1 strikeout in 11 innings of work. You got to be almost perfect to pitch well on a consistent basis without the ability to strikeout the opposing hitter. Give me the Twins -108!

ANALYSIS: Thursday game. Vancouver might be flat after its wild-card hopes took a near death-blow with Tuesday's crushing 4-3 home shootout loss to Ottawa. The Canucks remain very banged up, too, with the likes of Bo Horvat and Tanner Pearson out and fellow forward Alex Chiasson in question. That's a lot of offense. Minnesota is in the playoffs but trying to finish second in the Central. The Wild have one home loss since mid-March and are 2-0 vs. the Nucks this season.

Seattle is a beautiful city and a great place to visit. Unless you're the Texas Rangers.
The Rangers are 2-18 during their last 20 visits to Seattle. They've lost seven straight road games to the Mariners.

This figures to be another long season for the Rangers. So far that is holding true. Texas has the worst record in the American League at 2-9. The Mariners are 5-1 in their last six games. The Rangers have lost five in a row.

The price is low enough to fade the Rangers again in Seattle. The pitching matchup is Taylor Hearn versus Marco Gonzales. Hearn has a 4.70 ERA. He couldn't get out of the fourth inning against the Angels during his last start this past Saturday giving up three runs on six hits. Hearn is 0-3 lifetime against the Mariners with a 6.20 ERA in 12 appearances, including three starts.

Gonzales can get hot in stretches. He looked good in his last start, holding the Astros to one run on four hits in seven innings during an 11-1 win this past Friday. Gonzales is 8-6 lifetime against Texas with a 3.73 ERA.

After getting swept in their double-header with the Cleveland Guardians yesterday, the Chicago White Sox come back highly motivated for a victory in Game 3 this afternoon to try and avoid the sweep. I look for them to get the job done due to their advantage on the mound.

Dylan Cease is one of the young studs in this Chicago rotation. He went 13-7 with a 3.91 ERA and 1.249 WHIP in 32 starts last season with a whopping 226 K’s in 165 2/3 innings. Cease has picked up where he left off, going 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA and 0.937 WHIP in two starts this season with 16 K’s in 10 2/3 innings.

Zach Plesac went 10-6 in spite of a 4.67 ERA in 25 starts last season with only 100 K’s in 142 2/3 innings. He has pitched well in his first two starts this season against the Giants and Royals, but he is 2-4 with a 4.56 ERA in nine career starts against the White Sox.

Chicago is 110-53 in its last 163 games as a favorite. The White Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 games after losing the first two games of a series. The Guardians are 15-36 in their last 51 games as home underdogs. Bet the White Sox Thursday.
