Sportbooks and google authenticator

Hi I have a strange question but at the same time very interesting. Why do you think sportsbook use google authenticator? The obvious answer from them would be that is made for us to protect our account. But do you think that google authenticator is actualy also used to help sportbooks and crypto casinos for example, to help them collect your data like ip adress. I know that they won’t admit it and they would say that this is private information. But what do you guys think aboute it

Google Authenticator doesn’t need a live internet connection so throw that theory out. I wish all books would use it or at least offer it. Sites use it because it‘s secure , much more secure than SMS2FA, it’s easy to use and readily available.

It’s not. But this is good opportunity to remind everyone to make a backup of their Google Authenticator account, it’ll save you a major headache if your phone is lost or crashes. I recommend printing the QR code and storing it in a safe place, not on your phone, email or in the cloud.

I will tell my story how i get here. Soo look iam pro better and bookie limited me after i win some money. Soo i need to open more acc on my friends that i can bet. I am always very careful. that I always use a different IP for a different acc. I always delete cookies and my history. I always do the same things that I have been doing for 5 years in the betting world. but 1 week ago, the bookmaker I used connected 5 accounts whic i use.all 5 accounts were made in a completely different time period, the same bets were never played, they always had different ip. the only connection between them was that I had 5 accs connected to google Authenticator. Soo now i am 90% sure that someting bookie have that we dont know !

Did you use the same VPN, same computer or same browser? Did you deposit/withdraw from the same crypto wallet or transfer funds between the wallets? I know a few sites that have become really, really good at finding scammers and they won’t give up their secrets but Google Authenticator is definitely not how they caught you and was not your only connection between them.

also something interesting. why 99% of crypto bookies suggest using google Google Authenticator ? of course they will say because it is the easiest to use, etc., but isn't that a little suspicious? why don't they suggest other Authenticator on internet ? And some bookie have this olny for windraws ?? actually this reason for security is just bullshit to me…

Anyone who has concerns about Google Authenticator should use FreeOTP. It's completely open-source, unlike Google Authenticator, so there can be little worry that the software is doing something nefarious like what @lukahorvat85 suspects.

You're probably leaking your IP address and don't realize it.
