Speaker of House Election 1/3/22

Quite the spectacle going on in the House of Reps today.

McCarthy did not win 1st ballot.
First time in 100 years its going to require more than 1 ballot.

This is a mess.

Every time I check my email the news feed shows another failed house ballot. They're on to round 7 now with the same 20 hold outs. Ultimately I don't think this will effect much by the time the next election rolls around, but this is not a good look for house Republicans.

I wonder what the fallout would be if the Dems team up with a handful of centrist Republicans to troll their way into a centrist speaker. I don't see it happening, but on the other hand I don't see how congress ever gets this resolved.

As a lifetime republican I find this whole thing a joke and regardless of what happens republicans are coming out on the losing end, I d like to see Jeffries and McCarthy have a pistol duel winner takes control of the house. Back in 1838 was the last time house members dueled, if you were challenged you either dueled or were labeled a coward in the house forever and stood no chance of getting elected again.
