Sad to learn a coach/great college player I knew passed away

Anyone follow the Texas Tech women’s 1993 National Title squad?

Great team

Kind of came out of nowhere led by the amazing Sheryl Swoops who scored a still-record 47 points in the title game

I got to know their point guard Noel Johnson (all-time leader in conference 3-pointers) real well when she was an assistant coach at Texas State in the early 2000s

It was great to talk with her about the national championship team

She went on to be get a head coaching job

For some reason she popped into my head and I was wondering what she was up to as I was watching pre-tourney coverage

Sadly, found out she passed away age 47 a few years back after a short battle with ovarian cancer

She was point guard for a national title team, got to coach college ball for more than 20 years, I’d say she had a pretty good life

Still as mentioned did a hell of a lot in those 47 years.

Yea - cancer sucks. Ovarian cancer is just one of those that don’t get much press - but catches women by surprise and generally at a very young age. Breast cancer gets all the attention - but ovarian survival rate is very low as it’s usually caught too late - similar to pancreatic.
