Great reliever at a time where the position just began to evolve into a true specialist.
Comparing modern relievers to guys like Rollie - it’s just not fair. In his day - it wasn’t just getting the call with a 2-3 run lead in the 9th. Not uncommon to come on in the 8th in a tie game - trying to keep your team in it.
But yea - it’s tough to say HOF based on his stats overall. Roy Face was a tough reliever in his day - but no one is talking HOF for him. It’s guys like him and Ozzie Smith that make it so hard to call the HOF the “greatest” players. They were very good and everyone liked them/recognized the faces. But give me a choice between say Nolan Ryan over Rollie or Ernie Banks over Ozzie and it’s no contest - and I don’t consider either Nolan nor Ernie to be “elite” at their positions either - just better representation of what a borderline HOF should look like.
Again though - I have no vote and they are in - only way I get in is with a paid admission so more power to them.

Yea - but Mike Marshall was also a complete asshole to reporters and fans alike too. Never forget the HOF is as much a popularity contest as it is a testament to your accomplishments.
Baines is the recent poster child for this - but there are others… Billy Williams, Mazeroski, PeeWee Reese, Don Sutton to name a few. Guys were very good - don’t get me wrong - but to suggest they were in the top say 5 at their position at time of induction is a joke.
Jackie Robinson is probably the ultimate example - sure he broke the color barrier - but if he were the 2nd - he would be hall of very good - just like Larry Doby.
Like I’ve said - look at the top 10 HOF percentage getters - whatever you may think of the Yankees for example - there is no way Mickey Mantle shouldn’t be in the top 10. Ty Cobb is there but Babe Ruth isn’t - Seaver and Ryan but no Walter Johnson or Cy Young ? Hell - Cy BARELY made it at like 76% - the guy who they named the award for top pitcher after barely cleared the bar.
