Hall of Famer Steve 'Mongo' McMichael dies at 67

Hall of Fame defensive tackle Steve McMichael, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2021, died Wednesday at age 67, the NFL announced.

Great player and big personality

Said all you need to know about him though after ALS began to take its toll on him physically and he signed a DNR order - only to tell his wife to rip it up when he found out he was up for consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame by Senior committee - guy was not going to miss the opportunity to go in alive - even if he couldn’t physically be there or give his own acceptance speech.

He lived for football and his team - glad he got to experience the feeling of being acknowledged in his lifetime. Just a very tough way to go though - that disease and Parkinson’s have taken a few I’ve been close with and it absolutely sucks knowing the mind is there but the body has failed entirely.
