Sad - but 88 is a damn good run.
And so much more than a songwriter.
Of all the tributes and compliments paid to him though - I agree - the moment Sinead took the stage at the Bob Dylan tribute and was booed was the most authentic and telling KK moment though in his career.
While hundreds of “musicians” stood by and many booed along with the crowd - KK walked out and took the stage standing behind her - admonishing the crowd for “booing the little girl and not letting her sing her song” - she was hated for speaking up and calling the pope out earlier on SNL for not doing anything about sexual abuse by priest and people hated her for it.
Years later when we all found out she was right - no one was offering any apologies to her. But history showed KK was one of the few who stood along side her and offered support for her and people who spoke the uncomfortable truths. He didn’t give a shit what people thought - he only sought truth and to be on the morally right side. There ain’t too much more that’s more “outlaw” than that in country music - and for that he’ll be remembered for generations.
