I love a wide-ranging variety of music from that era. But, I never understood the appeal for the Dead. But, the guy gave a solid contribution to an art form that millions enjoyed. And that should be respected.

Sad news - RIP

To the haters of the Grateful Dead - I get it, but also need to learn to separate the imagery that comes to mind when you mention the band and its members and the reality of how truly gifted several members were musically.

I am not a particular fan of standing out in a field with 48,000 other people listening to some guy go off on a 18 minute bass solo why everyone around me goes off on their own little personal journey. At the same time - Weir, along with Jerry Garcia were simply amazing musicians who could play a wide variety of styles.

Sometimes it’s hard to separate the person from the band - like it’s hard to picture some actors not being their most famous role. But reality is Bob was simply gifted - no matter what he was playing. He will be missed - way too many “kids” out there today who just don’t know anything about music and think it’s something you can use AI to create and get famous. It isn’t - it’s a years long journey for many to become even mediocre- and for a select gifted few it just comes naturally and they are able to refine that to reach a pinnacle. This was one of those people.
