Criminally under rated when talking 60s music by a lot of the media for a long time.
You hear about the “genius” of guys like Jim Morrison - but they seem to forget it was Brian Wilson that picked up torch and elevated music in that period between Elvis going into the Army and the Beatles landing in the USA - and when he felt the heat from the British Invasion - stepped his game up and came up with a “concept album” well before Sgt Peppers was even a thought and produced arguably one of the best.
He dealt with a lot - and like a lot of great artist, he had some serious mental health issues. But dude was an absolute genius in his day and doesn’t quite get acknowledged for what he did by a lot of casual fans who just remember the hits. If he would have been able to keep it together - he might have been a much bigger name, but staying out of the public eye and producing more behind the scenes limited him from the public eye.
