He also overcame a lifetime of injuries and pain. The injuries to his feet during his playing days became debilitating later in life and the back pain was excruciating. In his book, "Back From the Dead" Walton wrote, "I can’t do this anymore. It’s just too hard. It hurts too much. Why should I continue? What’s the point in going on? I have been down for so long, I have no idea which way anywhere is anymore. There’s no reason to believe tomorrow is going to be any better. If I had a gun, I would use it."

Used to love listening to him call late-night games on the PAC 12 network. Overcame a tremendous stuttering issue as a youth.

He was great on the 3-part ESPN doc on the Lakers-Celtics rivalry when it came time for everyone to talk about the 86 Celtics.

Donald Sterling owed the guy millions and he told him to stick it and left it all on the table to go join the Celtics on a short-term deal because all he wanted to do was win.

Used to travel all offseason going to Grateful Dead concerts. They’d let him listen back stage and call him on stage for a couple of songs.

Also excellent 4-part ESPN doc on Walton “The Luckiest Guy in the World.”

A true treasure who will be missed
