No question sober.
I used to love buzzed gambling. I lived to get to the weekend and get into the gambling/drinking groove.
On my multiple Vegas trips I had a game plan down to a pat of getting in about 8 pm Friday night, drinking and gambling until the wee hours of the morning and sometimes until daylight. I usually wouldn’t drink the rest of the trip because I was always pretty worn out (I’d play the ponies and video poker when my energy was zapped).
Most I ever won during a night buzzed/drunk in Vegas was $30,200 profit from $4k I brought (high limit baccarat and 5/10 poker). That was an amazing night at the Wynn in 2014 where I happened to quit at 8:30 am up more than I was at any point of night. I’ve told this story before. Went to the room and told the ex to set the safe combo to something I absolutely could not guess. When I woke up and got finished with our comp meal in the steakhouse we took a cab and deposited all but $2k in the Wells Fargo a few miles off strip.
Definitely had some profitable nights of a few $k, but more times when I’d get up a grand or two and give it all back and then some because it’s hard as hell to quit and take profit when you’re drinking. (It oftentimes is anyway with folks like us but while drinking makes it even tougher and sometimes impossible). You want to play and play and play and the only thing that matters is the action and the buzz, and that’s when they’ve got you.
Last five years of sober life have been a lot more steady and profitable. Easier to look at the big picture and hope for Profitable weeks, months, years, etc
