Phrases they use in the Philippines - calling Ms. Genie

With not much going on in the sports world these days I figured I’d make a couple of random - JJ-like threads.

@BMR Genie it seems like I get folks from the Philippines an awful lot during customer service calls - ie Amazon, DoorDash, if I have a question about my credit card, inc.

Some things I’ve taken note of - I’m always pleased to talk to them because they are always very friendly, probably some of the friendliest people I’ve ever encountered.

Most speak English very well so I’m guessing a lot are taught English at a very young age.

Some phrases that stick out to me - no matter what you may be talking about they almost always say “for that one”

As in, I’ll explain the situation I need help with and the reply always begins, “I see, for that one…” Just something I find a little intriguing/amusing.

The old salesman in me (did phone sales in college) always tries to mimic the people I’m talking with to make them more at ease and make the odds they’ll assist me favorably so oftentimes I’ll let them know what I need help with and then ask “can you help me with that one?”

Also, to end every call, it seems the folks in the Philippines say “Bye for now.”

Haha, I think it has something to do with how they were trained or a possibility that someone started it from the senior rep and has been followed by the jr as they heard it. I am not familiar with the line since I never worked in actual customer call services or the need to call them for assistance.

One thing I noticed about Filipinos in this matter is... they like to copy short lines from their boss or their senior.

I am not sure if I am also like that though. I remember the word "Let's see" but I didn't know one poster also loves to use that line.

Hawk in PH is a large bird. Our national bird is called The Philippine hawk-eagle.

I guess no suitable translation for "Tuah" lol

Yap! Include me in that population. Every month lol. Salute to all the breadwinner.

But yes, a lot of nurses want to go abroad, lucky if they land in the US.

In general great hard working people and once you get to know them they can break balls with the best and have you laughing all day long.

If you've ever called Customer Service for Amazon, chances are your call went to this building. It's the Amazon Customer Service Center in Cebu, Philippines. It's right near Ayala Mall in Cebu City.

Cebu is one of the major call center locations for many companies. One of the things that makes it so desirable is like was mentioned before, the people speak English and they work for cheap. Cebu also has a great Internet infrastructure which can be lacking in this country.

In addition to speaking English, many Filipinos also speak Spanish which is helpful to so many people who speak that language around the world.
