2 days ago he said he has no plans to retire as HC even after an up and down season.

Looks like not a mutual decision but oh well. I think the proper term is "demoted".

Mutual decision = we packed his shit up and met him at the door as he came in this morning and he agreed to leave without my the need for security to escort him off the premise - he will now join the legions of work from home employees and be an “advisor” to the organization and be allowed to serve as a public relations ambassador.

He saw the writing on the wall and agreed to go willingly. Perhaps he thinks another job will open up or perhaps he realizes he bad things are and thinks if he sits out a year - let’s the next guy eat a 5-12 season in 2024 - there will be a change of heart and he will be welcomed back and have a new young rookie QB to lead then back to the promised land.

Guy was hell of a coach - but not getting any younger and has plenty of $$ - time to call it a career and enjoy a few years while he can. Lots of people stick around coaching way too long and tarnish their legacy hoping to go out on top. Be glad to be remembered and get out while you can walk away.
