Games I’m looking at posting so l can back reference and for the forum.

The Boilermakers will open the season as 3 point home underdogs to a Penn State team that started last season with an early road win in a Big Ten opener against #12 Wisconsin on their way to a 5-0 start to the season. Less fortunate for Penn State, that early start was the highlight to their season as their offense stalled out to end the season and they went 2-6 to end the season.

Both teams bring back their starting quarterbacks. For Penn State, the familiarity of Sean Clifford has not always resulted in an offense with much efficiency or scoring power. Uncharacteristically, Penn State didn’t have much of a running game to fall back on last season. They were 115th worst rushing team in yards per rush last season, and 98th in yards per pass. Penn State’s offense lost their best weapon last year in Jahan Dotson.

For Purdue, Aidan O’Connell took over for Purdue’s offense at quarterback a handful of games into the season and the Purdue offense hasn’t looked back since. Purdue had one of the most efficient Purdue offenses with O’Connell under center. He now gets the benefit of a full off season as being the guy.

He did lose an NFL wide receiver as well, in David Bell, but Purdue’s hoping their bevy of wide receiver talent can continue Purdue’s offensive momentum.
Penn State will enter this season with two new coordinators. Manny Diaz takes over on the defensive side of the ball, while Stacy Collins will lead the special teams. Both coordinators take over units that have seen plenty of turnover this offseason.

The defense will feature six new starters and a brand-new scheme. Thursday night against Purdue will be the first time Penn State fans will have to adjust to a new-looking defense since 2016. If my memory serves right, that year was quite successful.
Anybody that has seen or heard about Purdue knows one thing, they love to throw the ball. The Boilermakers found success after naming Aidan O’Connell the starting quarterback after three games. O’Connell rewarded the coaching staff by averaging over 370 passing yards a game in nine starts.
Penn State lost several players that carried a stingy defense. Penn State lost two players that were key in their pass defense with safety Jaquan Brisker and cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields.
Penn State’s worst game against the pass last year was against Maryland. In that game, Marylandwas able to rack up 371 yards through the air. With several new faces and a new scheme, the defense could be apt to give up some yardage.
The Penn State defense will welcome back several key defensive linemen from injury. The biggest of which being P.J. Mustipher. Adisa Isaac and Hakeem Beamon are also projected starters that missed last season.

P.J. Mustipher is the heart of the defense. He was injured against Iowa last season and missed the rest of the season. The Nittany Lions never looked the same after that game. Adisa Isaac and Hakeem Beamon are players we haven’t seen yet that the staff are excited about.

This handicap looks pretty straightforward to me:

*How good will Purdue QB O'Connell be? Some like him to have a huge year.

Will the Boilers rally around the QB to play to their strengths? Purdue looks like a live dog.
