What does this mean for the app? It is a haven for illegal business, I am curious if there are going to be more arrests??? I have urged people to move to signal for a long time. Signal is the most secure app in existence. Telegram is the new Silkroad on Steroids, never seen anything like it.

Not surprising JJ - most haven’t (and you really should). For all the people taking about how the media is treating us like sheep - it’s amazing how many have no idea who is leading the resistance- but claim to not be a “victim” of the modern media.

Telegram is the leading secure messaging app and widely being used in countries where state controlled media is the norm to share the truth. It’s where we are getting the truth about Ukraine and how people are able to share photos and reports. It’s encrypted snd being cloud based so it’s not easily shut down. Think of it like Bitcoin - it knows no borders and being decentralized makes it impossible to “block” like say a website like PornHub with servers in a set location/

The arrest probably highlights more about the relations between France and Russia than anything. Durov was a Russian citizen who became a dual French/UAE citizen as it became clear his views conflicted with his native Russia. Now we have France saying he’s “encouraging” illegal activity by not allowing moderation of activity on the app - in essence saying your responsible for policing what people do on your app.

Funny ain’t it - we talk about restrictive nations like N Korea/Russia ect - yet it’s the FRENCH who are locking people up for encouraging insurrection ! It’s likely a show by the French - let’s publicly support Ukraine- but let’s hedge our bets with Russia too and try to make nice by cracking down on their problems for them. Classic France move - remember “freedom fries” that came about because of the French refusing to support the Iraq invasion (and hoping for favorable terms on oil and easy lending terms from Arab billionaires to prop up their economy). France ain’t stupid - they know their people won’t tolerate capitalism and demand the finest in socialistic treatment - but that’s damn near impossible to maintain long term without someone else funding it. So why not play both sides.

Signal is 10X nore secure than Telegram, Zuckerberg only uses Signal. Most illegal activity and lots of high end drug dealing etc is al on signal. Signal puts Telegram to shame.

My guess it’s posturing only - who knows. It’s clear a lot of tech billionaires aren’t gonna just be quiet - but what are they going to do aside from post on X ?

I strongly doubt any actual prosecutions take place - it’s publicity stunt hoping to scare others and grab a headline - ala American politics.

I was reading there’s a lot of crime going on with telegram that’s why they shut this guy in hot water
Most do not know how to find it or use Telegram the way a lot of criminals use it, but once you understand and see how they are using it, it makes Silkroad look like rookies. It is amazing to be honest but nothing like Signal, Signal is the best app in existence.

By definition of the US DOJ - there is criminal activity taking place at BMR.

We are discussing offshore gambling activities which is in violation of the laws of the US in their eyes.

Just because someone says you’re a criminal doesn’t make it fact. Obviously - the interweb is full of people who would commit financial crimes for example - need to separate the criminal from the developer. Just because you build a weapon doesn’t mean you’re a murderer.

He is a political prisoner, a scapegoat , they want to make an example of it. The real victim in the new way of doing things to these people is Russ.. Free Ross!
Ross William Ulbricht is the real hero and king to be honest. his handle Dread Pirate Roberts was epic, he used to go back and forth and hammer posters , it was a sight to see. The man should be set free!

The real lesson learned here (if anyone actually didn't already know it), is that the Gov't can see everything, even in supposedly secure apps.

Depends on the encryption and the developer - but yes.

Sadly an iPhone is more secure than some “encrypted” apps. It all comes down to how much the developer wants to cooperate (or refuse to do so) and how exposed they are to a nation.

Of course cooperating with the US Government can severely impact your credibility and reputation too - ask Liberty Gun Safes how that worked out for them when they began allowing Uncle Sam to have access to unlock their electronic locks.
